I started watching Steven Universe. EDIT: fyi I started watching it from the beginning. I didn't mention that one.
Oh shit. Dude. I love it. It has some absolutely nuts attention to detail and worldbuilding, which is especially impressive in a show that' s aired in 15 minute increments. I like the music, too. It's very heartfelt and not over engineered.

I love the pop culture references as well, I've noticed Steven has a toy which looks like the "gotta go fast" Sonic, which is hilarious and I swear also a Gitaroo Man toy, which is surprising and awesome (also a N64 and Gamecube are clearly visible at certain points) And the episode "Keep Beach City Weird" is a hilarious takedown of conspiracy theorists and also unfortunately pretty prescient given the "alternative facts" Trump era.

I like Steven Universe. I have not seen it from the beginning, though. I've seen a few episodes in pretty jumbled order. :/

I kind of like that though since there's already so many episodes and it makes watching it a bit of a timesink, but I can pick it up and put it back down unlike anime which is usually best binge watched.

I can't stop watching Steven Universe, I'm already watching past the point I originally intended, I intended to watch a chunk of the show to see what I thought and then continue it down the road, but I can't help myself, I just want to see what happens next. I am seriously impressed with this show, my initial understanding of the show was it was a homage to "magical girl" anime and there are elements of that, but it manages to transcend the anime influence and stand on it's own, it's not just another American cartoon trying to ride the coattails of anime. I mean for starters the characters really look nothing like anime, they're very cartoony save for the gems themselves and even then it's vague, it manages to take influence without just being a pale imitation, you know what I mean? I'm also surprised by just how emotional the story can get, this show would have made me bawl my eyes out as a kid lol. But then on top of that it's a completely hilarious show as well. This might sound silly but watching this has made something about 2010s culture in general click for me, for years now I've felt kinda stuck in the 00s and the 00s were a very cynical time, which was a big influence on me, so I was shocked and honestly kinda freaked out as the 2010s took shape and I saw so many people wearing their hearts on their sleeves, so much emotion on display, I was always like "but what about the ironic distance you're supposed to have about absolutely everything?" but watching this show I have to say that I get it now, or at least have more of an understanding about what this decade's all about than I did. It's just watching something current that is very evocative of current culture and liking it as much as I do has simply given me a different perspective, I hope that makes sense. It's also a very nostalgic experience for me, watching a Cartoon Network show again, I was there from the start of "What a Cartoon" on the channel in 1995, which was the origin of shows like Dexter's Lab and Powerpuff Girls and near the end of the 90s I honestly started to prefer their shows to the Nicktoons at the time, but the last show I watched on the network was Teen Titans in 2005. So it's neat to return after all this time, it feels like reconnecting with an old friend.

There are/were actually quite a few good shows still on CN and even other channels recently. Adventure Time was pretty fun, Regular Show is really, really good actually, Gravity Falls I've seen a few episodes on TV of and is pretty good, and Pickle and Peanut is good too.
I never really understood why people are so negative about modern children cartoons. There's a few that adults like as well, and the rest they think is annoying. That's always how it used to be. When I grew up, the parents liked shows like Spongebob, Johnny Bravo and Dexter's Lab, but they hated the majority of the rest. I guess most can't really take off their nostalgia glasses with this topic.

Been keeping up with The Walking Dead. Just feels like a predictable build-up into a satisfying season finale of when they finally revenge and avenge.... or will they?

LOL Pearlgriff
We've established I love Steven Universe, and I think Griff summed up pretty well exactly what I love about it.
I can't recommend Gravity Falls enough either, though. That's another amazing show with good worldbuilding and a whole lot of thought put into it. It takes a couple episodes to get rolling but it'll surprise you.
Recently I've been watching 'Teachers'. It's.. wrong in ways that make me laugh. It's super cynical and very reminiscent of some of the old Comedy Central sitcoms. It's about a bunch of elementary teachers that just kind of suck at their jobs.

Gravity Falls is next on my to-watch list, I've been interested in watching the cartoons of this decade for years but it's hard to find the time, even finally watching Steven Universe was a spur of the moment thing which I'm really glad I decided to do.

I think you'll like it. It's not as heartwarming as SU but it's got crazy detailed backstory and surprisingly solid writing.

Gravity Falls is so good. I hope you can get around to it. But you have to watch it in order. I remember when I first saw an ad for Gravity Falls, and I thought it looked like it had potential, but I forgot about it until pretty much right until it premiered. It all clicked and I started watching it when it came on. It was so gratifying to be right about something being good all the way through.

Legion. I really like this take on the character as well as deciding not to dive into the superhero side of X-Men. Really cool so far.

Started watching Downton Abbey with the gf and to my surprise I'm actually enjoying it! Usually I find period dramas to be too predictable and "geared towards women", lost interest pretty quickly when she pestered me to watch Poldark.

I finished season 3 of Steven Universe, that's enough for now.
But man, what a wild ride it's been, I've really fallen in love with this show, I mean we're talking a show where a whole episode is one big Initial D homage and another episode has a visual reference to the end of End of Evangelion of all things, I mean End of Eva references in a "kids" cartoon? What a time to be alive.
But while all that's fun what makes it a truly great show though is the characters, emotions and story.
