In the N64 version, the only time you use the daikatana is in the fight with mishima. BTW, thanks for the heads up on the N64 version - I'd heard good/decent things about it but never got a copy to check out. TheGunheart Seeing as I'm probably not going to be able to finish the game much less the Marsh before the podcast, I appreciate your overview of the game as well. If it helps, the GBC version (the actual focus of the podcast) is roughly two hours long. And most of that length is the fault of some obtuse puzzles.

For me at least, the big 'stuck' points were the crane jump puzzle with Superfly (collision is very odd in general and for that part in specific), and some trial and error with the 'turn the dragon statues' puzzle.

I didn't get too far in with my new run on account of coughing myself half to death - I will definitely have it done by the podcast though. It took me a while but I finally found my Everdrive GB... and then I had to go out and buy a new microSD card because it wouldn't accept Samsung cards. Anyway it feels good playing it on my SP, although the extra-tiny image is a bummer. It's kind of obnoxious how some enemies have attacks you can't avoid, like those security guards in the prison area can shoot you whether you jump or not (in the GBC version).

All attacks hit you while jumping. Jumping is only good for platforming; to dodge, you have to move out of the way.
Also went ahead and beat the N64 version. It's actually roughly only twice as long as the GBC version and has much better cutscenes than the PC version, even if it's still the same dumb story. At least you can be entertained by N64-era fight scene animations that make some attempt at cinematography instead.
It's actually a completely different game rather than a straight port. Some of the maps use pieces of the PC version's levels, but otherwise it's its own (heavily abridged) experience. It also tends to only send two enemies after you at a time. Any more than that and the game slows to a crawl.

I guess I should share my experience with this since I gave it a college try.
I was honestly surprised with Daikatana GBC. I was sailing through it smoothly until I hit the castle. And even then, everything was going fine until I couldn't find the entry way to the second boss' lair. I had to stop there because school work caught up.
One little factoid that I am not sure people are aware of unless they have read Masters of Doom: Daikatana came from a D&D campaign that Carmack DM'd. He supposedly created it is as a test to see if Romero would take extremely dangerous risks.

I'm pretty sure that the first boss in the Athens level is meant to be 'Quake', John Romero's DnD character (well one of them; doesn't everyone have dozens? :/) what with it being a giant barbarian with an Earth-shattering hammer and all.

So, uhm, did this already take place? About two months ago, yeah. Not sure where the actual upload is, as of yet.
