One type of idea for video games I don't really see almost never at all in video games is imaginary friends (IF). The only ones I know are those that deal with the cartoon Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends a few years back. The whole idea of a game on this subject would make for some interesting gameplay. Already I've had for years an idea for one that could either be a RPG or a strategy game or both. Anyone aware of any games with IF's

It's a good concept for a game, and yet I can't think of a single one that explores this. It would be pretty entertaining to see. Maybe there could be a Pokemon-like game with this idea, haha.

There are several, Magic Pengel and its sequel Graffiti Kingdom, Drawn to Life, and Cocoron, just to name four. Even if you eliminate the conceit that a custom character originates from the same plane of existance as the NPCs, you're still left with heck of a lot of games, I reckon.

Phantom Brave plays with the idea, but I don't think they are purely "imaginary friends".

Isn't Gurumin about monsters that only children can see (therefore hinting at imaginary status?)
If you think about it that way, there's probably a ton of games that fulfill that.

In Contrast, you ARE the imaginary friend.

Sims 3 has literal imaginary friends, which in turn you can turn into real friends

Recently I played Among the Sleep, where the toddler has always a talking teddy bear with him. Most of the time he uses it as a light source whne hugging it (all part of the symbolism of course) but at times the bear gets off and moves and talks on his own, giving directions on what to do.

The player-character of Five Nights At Freddy's 4 keeps a teddy bear version of Golden Freddy around as an imaginary friend.

rpgmaker.net/games/6232/Dreaming Mary is all about a girl that spends lots of time with her imaginary friends at her dreams. Also it's a short yet great adventure/horror game.
