That one really conveys space cruising and aliens for me. it's a really great tune!
Music that screams shoot'em up. Wouldn't fit with any other genre.

Good picks! I could never really get into the Parodius soundtracks despite them being some of my favorite shmups. I'm not a big fan of the whole "remixed classic tunes" thing. I love it whenever an altered version of another shmup track gets thrown in though. I would love it if it was pretty much all goofy remixes of Gradius, Salamander, etc, tunes.

I love the Gamera 2000 OST. It's very... of its era. What really shines about Gamera 2000 is the gameplay and hilariously unbelievably bad FMV sequences but the soundtrack is good too.
and if by chance some of you have not seen all ten glorious minutes of FMVs well, rectify that immediately.

Yeah, the Parodius tune was a wild card. The other ones are tunes I really love. PS: Parodius portable is one of the crown jewels of my PSP collection. I particularly love Parodius Da!

Yeah all of the Thunder Force games have pretty sweet soundtracks. Zero Wing I haven't played but that was a nice bit o' music as well.

Pwnix : I love that one because it's a melancholy tune, a sad tune, which is surprising in a Shoot'em up. Great sad tune.

Yes, Pwnix, the VGM forum is slow most of the time... Anyway, let's see...
Detana!! Twinbee has some pretty cool tunes. It surprises me a bit that it's from 1991. I think this is from the PC-Engine release, but I prefer the X86000 version. It's also harder than I thought; I guess I'm too used to millimetric hitboxes.
I really like this piece from Akai Katana (though I haven't had the chance to play the game), made by none other than Ryu Umemoto. I think it's a great modern version of the shmup style.
Finally, one of my favorite songs from RayForce. The game has some pretty nice sequences, like ships coming up close or your own ship descending to Earth. Looks pretty advanced for its time.

Woohoo! As a kid, I used to play a certain shoot’em up a lot at an arcade I used to frequent (those were the days). I never paid attention to the name, and later could not figure out what it had been. After the longest time, I identified it as having been Raiden DX, mostly because I remembered the version of Gallantry that game has!

Why was I not informed of such a Gamera game o.o? That looks amazing...

The Twinbee series are some of my all time favorite shmups. They're so so gorgeous. Playing the Saturn version of Yahho on my RGB monitor is heaven. It's a shame that one is so short.

Man! I just listened to the whole thing and Ai Cho Aniki may legitimately have one of my all time favorite SHMUP OSTs. It's offbeat in the best way possible and absolutely captivating.

Well, technically Turrican 2 is a shoot em up for only three levels, but it's enough to grace players with this track:
Also, this thread needs even more Toaplan:
Finally, since the 1st level theme from Raiden has alredy been mentioned I will put the equally great boss theme:
