I only ever saw three of the Resident Evil movies. The first one I really liked. It was a fun adventure/horror kind of thing and pretty true to the spirit of Resident Evil if not the letter. I don't know what the other movies were because I just caught them on cable, but one was pretty much Resident Evil 2 but dumber. All I really remember from that is Nemesis showing up.
The other was decent. It had a bit with some infected crows trapping the characters in a bus that was pretty tense.

I'd honestly rather watch the House of the Dead movie as at least like the Room it is a compellingly bad train wreck. The first and subsequent Resident Evil movies are just utterly lazy, dreadful dreck. At least Uwe Boal is known as a scam artist- how Paul W Anderson isn't I'll never know. I'm glad he never done Castlevania after his threats to do so. That would have really been going too far.
Also game movie reputations have always been in the gutter. I don't think the reputation ever improved in the public eye did it? Games being made into movies deservedly have the reputation of movie licenses.

I heard that RE7 has a difficulty level called Ethan Must Die. That's a nice nod to an extra difficulty level in some of the Devil May Cry games. Who knows, maybe it's a sign that they're gonna properly reboot DMC... Incredibly, it's now been 9 years since the last "real" Devil May Cry, now would definitely be a good time to revive it. Also game movie reputations have always been in the gutter. I don't think the reputation ever improved in the public eye did it? There was a very brief period around the time of the first Angelina Jolie Tomb Raider movie in which video game movies were being taken more seriously, the Tomb Raider movie was at least a big budget production with well a known star and I think it was a pretty big hit. But by 2003, not only was there Uwe Boll's House of the Dead, but there was also the Tomb Raider sequel which flopped big time (I still have never seen that one and often forget it exists), which now that I think about it was probably an even bigger contributing factor to the ruination of video game movies' reputation than Uwe Boll (but he certainly didn't help) But I remember reading in magazines circa 2002 about a ton of video games that were optioned to be made into movies after the first Tomb Raider was a hit (including Pac Man weirdly enough and as a live action movie, not animation), most of which never got made, but it showed Hollywood was interested before comic book movies became the really big thing.

I recall someone had bought the rights to a Crazy Taxi movie- imagine that! Actually...given a Tetris movie is allegedly happening does anything as absurd in comparison?

That was actually Richard Donner of The Goonies fame who tried to make the Crazy Taxi movie. I would say making a movie based on Tetris but if they can make a movie based on Emojis anything is possible.

I dunno, I guess some of her performances are a bit more phoned in than others, but I generally got the feeling Jovovich has fun doing (most of) these movies. Also horror and zombie movies weren't quite that big back then, and Resident Evil itself moved to the actiony side in the games, so a horror instead of action movie was pretty doubtful. Maybe I'm not attached enough to the games, or my standards for games to movie adaptions are really low, but I can't get mad at the RE movies.

I'm watching a stream play of RE7 and I have to say it looks pretty amazing.

I haven't seen it yet, but this is a good opportunity to talk about people's final thoughts on RE7. Personally I thought it was a great game with a few issues, for starters the environments of the game all felt a bit cramped, the main Baker house for example is not sprawling like the Spencer mansion, I was honestly a bit surprised by how small an environment it was (save for all the basement hallways), now this makes sense considering this is meant to be someone's actual house and that's one of the most brilliant elements of the game, a normal home being converted into an RE nightmare is a clever idea and the fact that you could see everyday items and things scattered around the house added an element of tragedy to the whole thing, reminding you that the Bakers were once normal people before things went wrong. So I guess if you can say that my biggest problem with the game is I wish there was more of it, that's not so bad. But then there's the story I liked it for the most part save for the fact that it leaves a lot open, just who created Eveline and what was the deal with Chris at the end? Was that the real Chris or not? The DLC that was meant to expound on the game's story has yet to be released, it seems like Capcom wanted to have it both ways with 7's story, they wanted it to mostly be a side story while at the same time setting things up for the next major plot arc, but because of that it leaves 7's story feeling a bit truncated

So, just watched Vendetta and it's yet another cheese filled Sunday rental.Honestly, i had more fun watching RE 4:Incubate,than this.It tries to evolve into different virus, but i'm starting to wonder, who do they really want to target with these movies: fans? all the rest? It doesn't work both ways, i don't think.
Regarding animation quality,if anyone still cares--Far Cry 5's character introduction trailers look better imho.

So, I recently played REHD and to my surprise ended up really enjoying it. I also have 0 (which I already played on GameCube, kinda meh), CVX, 4, 5, 6 and Revelations and I'm intending to get 7 and Revelations 2 (also the HD remakes of 2 and 3 when they show up). Any other side games and spinoffs I should consider?

They're only on the PS2, plus they meant to be played online which you can't do anymore, but I still find them fun despite some frustrations.

Both have decent length, look and sound good and have some extra content, which contributes to the main RE storyline quite nicely. Played it on Dolphin emulator actually few years ago, with it's improvement rates it should be even smoother experience now, mouse controls doesn't hurt it either.

Honestly, while I liked Darkside Chronicles well enough initially, the constant shakey cam got kinda annoying quickly. It's so hard to aim when your character can't even breath out without having a slight seizure.
