This is awesome, I was just talking about how the site needs more Spanish game representation. I actually got play this in arcade in NJ years ago. Looking back it was a nice holdover until the release of the original Metal Slug.

Pretty nice to see this game get an article; as flawed as it is it's still a somewhat obscure gem from that time. As the article notes it's got an extremely Amiga look to it, but even more visually advanced than those.
Also, had no idea about the stolen music, I just assumed it was all original stuff composed for the game and later converted into samples for use in the game, as other Gaelco games did... unless those did steal music too.
This is also one of the very few games released by Gaelco that were developed by other companies. One of them is lewd game Splash!, developed by some British company I can't remember the name of, and Point Blank-like Bang! (which somehow reached Japan, courtesy of GM Shogi... whoever those are) developed by fellow spaniards Bit Managers, the same people behind the Game Boy/GBC Turok games as well as a load of GB/GBC games from Infogrames (such as the fantastic Bomb Jack GB port), and who'd later port Gaelco's own Radikal Bikers to the PlayStation.
Gaelco's a bit of a fascinating company, especially considering they managed to get some footing outside of Spain, courtesy of Atari Games and later Namco, even if really only three of them managed to get some type of success.
...y'know, I kinda wonder if Visco took some inspiration from Gaelco during those days, considering Drift Out '94 and Neo Drift Out are pretty much inspired by Gaelco's two World Rally games, and Neo Drift Out in particular feels a lot like those. I don't know of any isometric-ish rally racers prior to World Rally, so maybe Gaelco made a bit of innovation?

I always assumed Gaelco was like a bootleg company specializing in ripping off Jaleco products.

Yay for Locomalito!
Anyway, where I live I usually found a certain number of Gaelco coin-ops back in the day. Other than "Splash!", there was also another similar porn-y game named "Glass" where you piloted a little spaceship, I remember the various planets having very good cartoony graphics and high creativity. There was also "Thunder Hoop" whose protagonist was a Son Goku ripoff (Spain has always loved Dragon Ball) who had to defeat a mad scientist and his army of mutants, and the sequel "TH Strikes Back" where he grew up and this time bcame a Rambo ripoff. There was also the platformer "Big Karnak" inspired by Egyptian mythology, and "Alligator Hunt", sort of Cabal-styled shooter.
For some reason most of them can't be emulated in MAME, or crash after a certain point anyway, wonder what kind of protections they used.
Another Spanish coin-op that I remember vaguely (and that can't be emulated as well, AFAIK) was "Little Robin", a sort of Snow Bros. ripoff but with super deformed Robin Hood characters and assorted Medieval creatures.

I can only speak for myself, but the Gaelco games that stand out for me are Radikal Bikers (1998) and Alligator Hunt (1994). Radikal Bikers had some pretty good 3D graphics and animations for the time and the gameplay was good too, with alternate paths and shortcuts and everything. Unfortunately the PS1 conversion wasn't that good. Alligator Hunt was a decent enough Cabel-style game, it had completely digitized music and the first few stages are pretty varied, but later levels get really repetitive.

Weird, this was posted 4 days after I did a video on run n guns where I mentioned this game. You didn't mention the virus boss that explodes to binary code when you kill it!

Did anyone ever figure out where all the music came from? There are two or three levels with music from To Live And Die In LA, and the boss track is from Passenger 57, but I don't know the rest, and nobody else seems to know, either.

It's been few years since I found out and played this awesome, overlooked gem. And since you decided to make an article about, here is my question that needs an answer: What's the deal with that kid photo at the background? Is it the child of one of the developers? Is it one of the developers when they were a kid? Is it a random photo they found at the internet?

I literally chose to write about this game b/c I was looking through the spriters resource for something to write about. TSR->arcade->b->biomechanical toy "hey this looks interesting lol its probably eurotrash." but it was actually pretty awesome. But to answer your question, i didnt even notice that photo. Stuck out just as much as everything else in the game, tbh.
