Yay, another 3D0 exclusive FPS! It is really weird how lots of Wolf 3D clones that came out the same time as Doom seem so old compared to it. Doom was clearly ahead of its time and game changer for FPS games, the same way SuperMario 64 was for 3D platformers- it made everything else look dated. Still, seeing the screenshots and the let's play, this one does not look to bad despite the untextured floor and ceiling.

might be the first original FPS released on a console This reminds me that I have to finish a Silent Debuggers article I've had kicking around forever. I played Escape from Monster Manor when it was new and had some fun with it, but completely forgot it existed compared to Killing Time and Immercenary. Everyone needs to play a 3DO. Not because it has a lot of great games but because it's such an amazing intersection of good and bad ideas regarding the "future" of gaming.

I remember going to a street fair years ago, one of the local electronics stores had a whole bunch of 3DOs set up to play and this was one of them. It's the only time I played it actually (I do have a copy I got in a lot of other stuff but never put it in) and I was really impressed at the time, since I hadn't played a real FPS at that point, not owning a PC until later.
I also remember being blown away by Crash n Burn at a kid, then replaying it lately and couldn't deal with the framerate. Total Eclipse I still have fond memories of, that might still be kinda okay?

Total Eclipse is probably one of the few 3DO games that is still reasonably playable, but even then, I've been told there's a Playstation "remix" of it that's better.
I'm at least glad I own a 3DO, even though I know I'll never actually buy a game for it ever (outside of The Incredible Machine, which I got from Goodwill for 4 bucks and love to show people because holy shit, 3DO game cases are TALL).

People being in awe of the tall game and music CD boxes of yore always makes me feel so old. My "favorite" 3DO games are the ones where the manual/back of the box goes into mega marketing lip service mode about how you're not holding a game in your hand but rather an interactive cinematic play experience because it's always on the games that are a bit questionable like Immercenary and Tetsujin: Iron Angel of the Apocalypse.

If I remember right, Total Eclipse's sequel, Solar Eclipse, is supposed to be a lot better, although that ended up as a Saturn exclusive, oddly enough.
But yeah, I gotta say, I really miss the era when every system basically had its own unique type of box. Early PS1 games, especially, since those reminded me a lot of certain VHS boxes.
