Not to disappear but to scale back, I wish early access went back to when just a few promising titles from penniless developers used that option to finance their own work. Now I feel it's grossly abused by devs, often as a smokescreen to justify early releases and start making money off them - then there's the worst scenario of just bad games released in e.a. saying "they'll get better". That few of them leave that state after a long time, if ever, hardly helps matters.

Here's a genre I have fed up seeing: F2P farming/city simulators. We finally see a new Moomin game and what we got? A F2P farming simulator for smartphones. Meanwhile, can puzzle genre have its dignity back? I am tired of Candy Crush and similar titles. What bugs me is that like Moomin, Futurama has a new game and that is a matching puzzle game for mobile. www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKaE8u12hGUBut I just miss the bigger releases. At least there's Puyo Puyo, but I have to import it.

MOBAs. Even when they don't call them MOBAs, they're massively irritating, because these games often come with hideously toxic communities, steep learning curves, and the most player-unfriendly environments possible, loaded with microtransactions and other unpleasantness. Agreed, I've never touched a MOBA and don't intend to start. There's something about that entire genre that is really, really off putting to me for reasons I can't even really explain. Me too, not interested in the least in that genre, I just don't get how it works and what's so interesting about it. Even then, it gathers huge crowds that I could not believe to be possible outside South Korea or other Asian countries.

I've got another trend I wish to see die off: dumb-ass half-assed mobile spin offs of beloved IPs like Metal Slug (and I do mean it). Nothing sucks like having a game like Metal Slug Defense represent the present state of Metal Slug and as a huge fan of the series, it pisses me off especially since it has over 26 million downloads for some reason. I guess there is a sucker born every minute huh?

Play to Win Games. (I don't mind micro transactions for skins) Bending over to fanboys/girls. Stigma against JRPGs. The Games as Service model.

Although I enjoyed Metal Slug Defense and I found it quite well-made and faith to the spirit of the series, it gets incredibly repetitive after a while (just like most smartphone games). So I deleted it and never touched it again. I don't understand why people still play it. Of course I would love to see a new side scrolling run and gun for consoles. It reached that much downloads? I knew it was popular but daaaaaaaaamn! I hate it when people defend them by claiming that they can enjoy it without paying a single cent. Yeah: by waiting for hours to play next round and grinding forever to proceed to the next levels. This is why I like it when F2P games like Puzzle&Dragons get superior premium spin-offs to consoles.

I'll be that guy who says that for a sec because I do like Badge Arcade on 3DS even though it is free to play. You can get many things you want in the game and you never feel like you are too restricted because it is just a UFO catcher minigame to decorate your home screen.
It's one of the rare times where F2P doesn't have to suck.

Almost Nonstop Running Narration (games like Thomas Was Alone, Stanley Parable, Pneuma : Breath of Life, etc.).
I guess it was Bastion that popularized this, but I'm getting tired of the whole thing.

I liked Bastion a lot, but the narration in Transistor was really overdone and annoying. It's from the same actor and developer but the way it's written becomes tiresome quickly.

And I should let you know I have been dying to see a real Metal Slug game for over 7 years since Metal Slug 7 and SNK owes us that (but no we get KOF XIV and nothing else).

Furthermore it's much easier to get many stuff at this game without paying a single cent than in a real claw crane.

My favorite publishers growing up announcing something new in a series I like only for it to turn out to be a half-baked mobile game or pachinko machine. That's one trend I'd like to see go away. T_T

T_T Yeah, a lot of people probably have no idea how disappointing it was to hear Electronic Arts announce some years back "We're reviving the Ultima series - stay tuned!", see the trademark filings, and ultimately wind up getting...Ultima, the Facebook game.
