Wow, that looks beautiful. Glad to hear about it - as well as be reminded about the game "Touch Detective", since I saw ads for that game in Nintendo Power when I was younger, thought it looked cool and promptly forgot about it for many, many years.

Wow, I've never heard of this one at all and it looks super cool, I hope it doesn't cost an arm and a leg nowadays.

Pure unadulterated bazungolfness. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

This is one of my absolute favorite DS games. It doesn't do anything new mechanically like Etrian Odyssey (whose huge popularity was likely responsible for Atlus choosing to localize this game), but it's a rock-solid classic dungeon crawl. The soundtrack is goddamn AMAZING though, and features what is probably my favorite RPG boss music ever:
And the chiptune version is just as awesome! Speaking of which, my one complaint about the game is that the included soundtrack doesn't have the chiptune versions of the songs. Well, it has a couple chiptune tracks, but 95% of the chiptune versions are missing. I know it's just a free bonus that came with the game, but I've always wished that I could listen to the chiptune soundtrack outside of the game.
Fun fact that isn't relevant to anything but still amuses me: in classic mode, the wireframe dungeon scrolls slightly faster that the modern version, so you can navigate faster when in classic mode.

Cripes, I finally looked the game up on Amazon and it's just as expensive as I feared it would be, bummer.

It's not outrageous but I was hoping it'd be a little less, when you're on my budget that's a lot of money to spend on an odd DS game.

Thanks to DeSmuME I got to try this game and it's pretty damn rad, but super hardcore, as soon as I got to the second level I repeatably got my ass handed to me by ghosts.
It seems like a perfect game to pick up and play bit by bit, so I haven't given up.

A second look at this and I am reminded of Paper Sorcerer, which has similar art style and is a quite old school crawler.
