www.hardcoregaming101.net/redcomrades/redcomrades.htmA classic Russian comedy adventure game, the first in a series of five, that has recently been translated into English and released on Steam. It's about Communists from 1918 thwarting an alien invasion, and it's goofy as hell.

Hah, didn't expect anybody to review that one! I wonder if somebody will make a review on Pilot Brothers - a couple of Russian adventure games from 1997-1998 based on Alexander Tatarsky's cartoons. They were two games that pretty much started the “Russian adventure game” craze that eventually became its own, weird subgenre ("Petka and Vasily Ivanovich" was a result of it too, though in the end it was the one everybody tried to copy, with lackluster rip-offs like "ШтЫрлиц" and "Революционный квѣстъ" ).

Are they translated into English anywhere? I only got to play this one thanks to a Steam release.

If you're about Pilot Brothers, here's the first and second one (there are also translated versions for iOS and Android, if I remember correctly). Though to be honest, English voice-over doesn't really stand up to original version, but there isn't that much dialogue anyway.

I've been reading HG101 for a long time, but registered just now -- to right the wrong, so to speak ) The series Petka and Vasiliy Ivanovich consists of 9 games, not 5 as the author says. Starting from the third game the series changes the developer and drops the "Vasiliy Ivanovich" in the series name; being called just Petka (Pete). See: www.mobygames.com/game-group/petka-series

That's probably why I missed them - I found five of them on a compilation and thought that was it. Will make the fix when I get the chance, thanks!

Played this recently. What a weird game . In the end I don't even know if I like it or not. But I'm curious to see how much better (or worse) the final game in the series is. I remember this madness .

I'm kind of amazed that this site managed to cover not one but 2 series of soviet-themed point and clicks from the 90s in less than 6 months.

I'm kind of amazed that this site managed to cover not one but 2 series of soviet-themed point and clicks from the 90s in less than 6 months. Is the other The Big Red Adventure? Anyway, the only other actual Russian game I've played is called Everlasting Summer, a visual novel about a Russian anonymous (it was a product of Russian -chans) transported back in time and rejuvenated in order to attend a Soviet youth camp full of girls. Basically che Communist answer to Katawa Shoujo, less serious/sad but still with a message underneath (don't waste your life, in this case). I also suggest to read this article while listening to this song.
