www.hardcoregaming101.net/croc/croc.htmArgonaut, developer of the SNES Starfox games, pitched Nintendo an idea for a 3D platformer starring Yoshi. They struck it down. Frustrated, the team broke ties, continued to develop the game anyway, and created their own character: the wide-eyed crocodile Croc. While deriviative, it was a good alternative for those who wanted an N64-style 3D platformer, but didn't own an N64.

I remember playing those when I was 7 or 8. they were a lot of fun, although when it comes to 3D platformers from that era, Rayman 2 has to be my favourite.

Yeah I played it back in the day. Looked gorgeous in 3DFX.....but gameplay wise it was totally forgettable. I hate to admit it, but I liked the 3D Gex title more. Nice article though, never knew about the Sequel or the Game Boy titles.

I remember seeing the Crocs on the shelves of the local Blockbuster all the time but sadly I never rented them, I guess I thought they looked too generic? I wish I had given them a shot though.

Had the demo for PC when it was new. Looked pretty great, but the demo was rather weird. Lots of short sequences / rooms, seemingly disjointed.

I remember the first Croc getting a lot of positive reviews on several PC magazines back then, in no small part due to being the only game of its kind released on computers. I eventually played and completed it but while I was impressed by the graphics I felt the gameplay was nothing special.

Did some cleanup.
It seems I frequently hear about people running this game in DOSBox (with a Win95 installation), probably because it is uniquely dependent on 3DFX.
