I don't know if a reboot could work, the simple premise of nerds vs jocks wouldn't really work today when even jocks wear Superman t shirts, it would have to be about nerd infighting, in which case does the title really make sense anymore? Plus in my opinion the fact that nerd culture is eating itself is not really funny
On top of that Revenge of the Nerds is a vastly politically incorrect movie by today's standards, that's what makes it funny, but probably wouldn't fly today, like the scene where they wire hidden cameras into the sorority house.
Though here's an idea, instead of a reboot if you could get the original cast back like Anthony Edwards, Curtis Armstrong etc and have it be about these older guys clashing with a younger, meaner generation of nerds, that just might work.

With the reboots of old movies being one of the trends of the latest years (with shitty results like Robocop reboot), Revenge of the Nerds would be neat for a reboot, especially since the geek culture has changed a lot since then. The question is: How would you make your ideal Revenge of the Nerds reboot? What kind of characters would you make at the roles of the nerds? And what kind of characters would you make at the roles of the bullies? The sure thing is now there will be female nerds as well since it's a common thing now to see girls take interest to geek stuff whenever it is anime, mmo, comics and so on. And now we will have new kinds of nerds like the weeaboo, the popular model which is into cosplay, the bro gamer, the hipster and so on. They already tried to do this about 10 years ago and failed, so it's safe to say it's dead and buried. Anyway I have no idea on how to update the setting and characters, also because I don't think if the raunchy comedy a la Porky's is still a thing. Maybe it's better to choose for a reboot films like Real Genius or Weird Science? (The latter one would be more feasible with 3D printers, advanced AIs and genetic engineering, I think)

Definately, it should be about Female nerds, with the original nerds actors making cameos as new characters that reference the old movie.

None of this works without Ted McGinley.

You liar, you are not mathuser2929....you're Paul Feig in disguise! On a serious note...I'm not really sure this sort of thing would work, as pointed out earlier in the thread, the stereotypical 80s "nerd" is kinda gone and everyone is a little bit nerd these days. Hell, just look at a recent example, Bad Neighbors, where the film couldn't even fully commit to having the frat boy characters be full on antagonists (Mind you, it didn't help that the film itself is a shitty shit rogen "me likee dwugs" garbage film, but I digress...). Another example is the 21 jump street series, which basically shows that both the jock and the nerd can be outcasts...but also part of the in crowd, depending on where you go. ( Plus where US schools ever really as stupidly cliquish as movies would have you believe? I have a hard time believing that)Plus there's the fact that remakes....remakes are shit and we shouldn't encourage Hollywood to keep pooping the damn things out >.<;

Plus where US schools ever really as stupidly cliquish as movies would have you believe? I have a hard time believing that) American movies are usually an exaggeration of most aspects of life over here, but there are definitely cliques and social boundaries. You cannot hang out with these people if you're a certain type of person. These people will pick on those people. If anything, the cartoonish villainy of high school life in movies is actually preferable to the daily terror of the real thing.

Let's just say I'm not looking forward to eating at an American diner thanks to Road Trip & Waiting That never actually happens though, it's a fear people have, but no one would risk their job to be an asshole like that, especially today where if you work in the food service industry chances are you really, really need that job. I have a cousin who worked in several restaurants and I asked him about that once, he told me that at the very least you wouldn't have time to mess with people's food, it's a very rushed, busy job.

Since it would be a reboot, they could take away the outdated rauchy comedy elements. Still they could have some naughty jokes like the weeaboo drooling over sexy anime and video game characters and the normal, reasonable girl of the company make fun of him. As about how to update the characters and the setting, franchises like Genshiken, Densha Otoko, Scott Pilgrim and The IT Crown could be nice inspirations.

Anime Club by KC GreenMy experience with nerd culture growing up has been infights. They don't care anymore about cliques. They are too busy being snobs and elitist with each other to go out and pick on any groups. This (infamous) plot works just right, because they are exactly what has got me to avoid talking about anything nerdy with anyone. People being incredibly fucking nerds. And not in a good way. Think back to the filthy casual thing. Where you will always look into a group that can bitch at anyone that does not know / enjoy their hobbies as hardcore as they have. It is easier on me to opt out the "Do you like anime or video games?" question by saying no than by giving them an opening to bitch. Even music which is my favorite shit to chat with is no slouch. I leave the hobby talk to friends and non elitist forums like this one. I have given up on doing it elsewhere because of the snobs. But I can see this being the closest and best thing we have about sorority and fraternity houses. It beats plain 4chan vs. Tumblr.
