www.hardcoregaming101.net/demonfront/demonfront-6-sample.pngTaiwan-based developer IGS is primarily known for their PolyGame Master arcade hardware, and along with it, a whole slew of Final Fight-style beat-em-ups. Demon Front, release on 2002, veers away from that direction though, and instead pays homage/rips off SNK's Metal Slug.

I remember watching a longplay of this a couple years ago right after MAME added support for it! From what I remember, there are hidden areas that give you bonus items. They might unlock something, too, but I can't recall what if anything.

Gamespirit in Lyon, France, have Demon Front displayed next to Metal Slug X and as the writer of the article said, despite it's technical competency and the quality of the pixel-art, it's visuals are somewhat dead compared to that game. The larger resolution of the Polygame system (448x224) plays a big part in creating that impression I think. Big, more square pixels gives a vibrancy to the Metal Slug games that even something like a Capcom CPS1 or an Irem M71 game lacks (both 384x224).
I cannot comment on differences in gameplay though, as I find run and guns where: 1. You cannot fire diagonally 2. Most enemies take more than one hit, to be incredibly tedious and boring. GunForce > GunForce 2 > Metal Slug-series

I know some people who prefer Demon Front instead of Metal Slug, and it's believable - it's beautiful and gameplay is slightly different.

I'm firmly in the Gun Force 2 boat. It's admittedly a bit on the "way too easy" side, but unlike its choppy predecessor (as well as its spiritual successors) it is fast and fluid. Almost feels like a perfect marriage of Contra and Metal Slug, aside from the lack of challenge.

Do agree with Gunforce being excellent run n gun game Flow in Demon Front kind of bad if compare with metal slug Because in MS, screen/scene will move if you get rid of all big guns in it. While in DF, some screen/scene halt for bit reason But DF has nice other-weapon also has leveling system Melee and using pet will increase pet's xp (up to 10 lvls) while gunning without dying will increase firepower's xp (only up to 3 lvls)
