We all have our favorite franchises, but I'm willing to bet that only the most obsessed have played every single game in a given franchise, but I feel like for most people there's probably one or two games in a franchise that we've never played that were still curious about simply because it's one we've never played before.
This is the thread where we mention the deep cuts we're curious about and ask, is it worth playing?
For me I'm a huge Castlevania game and while I've played most of the games in the series, I've never played for example the Game Boy entries and don't really have any interest I'm sorry to say due to the black and white graphics, but one Castlevania I am curious about is Cruse of Darkness, the follow up to Lament of Innocence and pretty much the only IGA produced Castlevania I've never played.
I like Lament of Innocence ok, it's a flawed game but there's still a lot about that is solid (most notably the music and combat), I'm not sure why I didn't play Curse of Darkness when it was new, but as time has gone on it sticks out in my mind as the one game in the series which I haven't played yet which really interests me.
So how is Curse of Darkness? Worth playing? How does it compare to Lament of Innocence, better or worse?

So how is Curse of Darkness? Worth playing? How does it compare to Lament of Innocence, better or worse? Curse of Darkness, as much as they improved over Lament (by re-adding equipment, allowing you to craft new weapons and armors out of dropped items, and making the different maps more interconnected), they totally freaking missed the stuff that really bogged Lament down. The combat still feels alright, though the fact that the camera is no longer fixed means you will be constantly moving it around while fighting. Subweapons are now completely gone (because Hearts now power your Innocent Devils and their specials), Hector runs really slow for how large the rooms are, the rooms really feel like copy-pasted corridors half the time, enemies feel like damage-sponges more often than not, and...honestly this part's way more subjective...I didn't like the music nearly as much as Lament's. It's a little too heavy on the metal for me. I mean...it's at least smoother-feeling than 64 was, to me, but I feel like your desire for a 3D Castlevania might be better served with, say, Dark Souls 2.

One of the Gameboy games was remade for Wiiware, called Castlevania: The Adventure Rebirth. I really liked it. It's the more traditional stage-based gameplay with some great music.
My game I'd like to know more about is Warioworld. I like 3D platformers, but nothing seems to stand out when I watch videos of it. Is it worth playing?.

Big Soulsborne series fan here. Want to play Demon's Souls someday, but lack the hardware for it.
Also love Metroidvanias but have never played Symphony of the Night, also due to hardware reasons.

Problem solved: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Konami_GB_CollectionPlay the European releases for colorized versions of Castlevania Adventure and Belmont's Revenge (Legends doesn't matter because it sucks anyway). You're far better off playing those than Curse of Darkness, in my opinion. Also, I don't know if your aversion to black & white graphics only applies to Castlevania or games as a whole, but you're really missing out if you're writing off all black & white video games. And heck, even without formal colorized versions, you can play any original Game Boy game on a Super Game Boy, Game Boy Player, or any Nintendo handheld from the GBC through the GBA SP to add a tiny bit of color to the graphics.

From what I've read, it's not a remake, it just has the same story but the gameplay is unrelated. That's just from what I've heard, though.

I dunno, Adventure was quite bad too. The only "redeeming quality" of this game compared to Legends is that it's too short to annoy you as much, and maybe some decent soundtrack here and there.

Yeah, Rebirth is basically a brand new game.
Legends has good music too. That's about the only good thing about it (well, Sonia is also cool, and there're some interesting plot twists). The design, controls, and programming all are way sloppy compared to Adventure. I mean, you scroll an enemy's spawn point one pixel off the screen and back again and the damn thing reappears. Everything about Adventure is really tight and polished. It's just challenging and moves super slowly, to minimize motion blur, which was a major problem for the old brick Game Boy, and that's why people hate it. If approached with some patience, it's a good game.

I played almost every game from the MegaTen franchise, but I miss two of them. I played 25 mobile games, but the MegaTen have 27 mobile games. Due to the fact, that these were released on old japanese mobile phones I won't have the opportunity to play them. Some of them are really awesome. They are like side stories to SMT 1 or 2. Some of them are before the "Great Destruction" and you see the alignments in a different point. It is kinda funny that SMT IF Hazama Chapter is a retelling of SMT IF, but with some minor, but interesting differences.
Yours sincerely

I like to think I've more or less played every Ys game (though I never did finish Mask of the Sun), but there's one I've always been curious about that I never did have a chance to play: Ancient Ys Vanished: The Truth -Adventure of Dogi- It was a Japanese cell phone game from the pre-smartphone era, and was apparently a retelling of Ys I (and II?) with Dogi as the protagonist instead of Adol. I'm really, really curious if it was any good, as I just absolutely LOVE that concept. (Though since I never hear anyone talk about it, and it was NOT a Falcom production -- I want to say it was Taito who made it? -- I'm betting it wasn't particularly noteworthy.) Similarly, there was a PopoloCrois cell phone game that I never did get to play, though that one was basically just a battle arena minigame sort of thing IIRC, so I don't particularly feel as though I'm missing much. There was also a PocketStation game attached to PoPoRogue, however, that I never played on account of the fact that I -- like most of the world -- never owned a PocketStation. And that one I *am* kind of curious about. And finally, I'm a big fan of the Hatsune Miku: Project Diva and Project Mirai games, but have never played Sega's smartphone rhythm game "Miku Flick" on account of the fact that... erm... I've actually never owned a smartphone (crazy, I know!). If I ever do get a smartphone, though, Miku Flick will be a day one purchase. -Tom

Honestly and this might sound pathetic, but it's less of a desire for a 3D Castlevania and more a desire for a Castlevania period, any Castlevania. Because I admit, I'm fan of the lore of the series and while I'm looking forward to Bloodstained I think it's a shame IGA had to ditch Castlevania's lore, while I'm sure the story in Curse of Darkness is nothing major, it's still an IGA related 'Vania that I've never played and considering there will probably never be another Castlevania game ever, to say nothing of another IGA related one, beggars can't be choosers, you know what I mean?

Actually, I was just the other day thinking about this regarding the Zelda series. As I've stated previously, I'm playing through all the main Zelda games in order, and I'd really like to do some kind of appendix project after I wrap up a Link Between Worlds. The BS-X games, Link's Crossbow Training, stuff like that. Sadly, while Four Swords I can play the anniversary version of with someone, I really don't feel like playing Triforce Heroes offline or with random people online. Other than that, I can't really think of any moderately sized franchise that I love I have played all games from. I've played all main Rayman games, but I haven't played most of the obscure handheld games or spin-offs. I've played most Gradius games, but I'm still missing a few as well, especially since the franchise is all over the place platform-wise and has a lot of JP-exculsive games. And don't get me started on fucking Mario. This is a series with mulitple games that are personal milestones in my formative years as a gamer, so if I ever get a steady/high enough income to do so, I'd like to own all Mario games ever put out. But good luck with that. Also, I don't know if your aversion to black & white graphics only applies to Castlevania or games as a whole, but you're really missing out if you're writing off all black & white video games. I was about to say that.

Risen series
Gothic in my country are very positive pleased RPG game series(Many thanks by great work in voice acting)Except Gothic 3 who split fans into two sides, and when Forsaken Gods expasion pack came out are tottaly hated and some fans mocked title by calling "Forsaken Bugs" because was poorly made just like Elder Scrolls 2 Daggerfall are called Buggerfall, Even patches fix most problems, game fans are still not been satisfied.
Risen series nad nothing to Gothic series but was made by Piranha bytes father studio of Gothic series, Jowood(Now Nordic games)Who had rights for Ghotic series, and they made spin off but related to Gothic seires called Arcania.
While Arcania was pleased by some Ghotic fans, Risen wasn't, As been long Gohtic fan ive think Risen are much closer to Gothic series even they not related.

I try playing a lot of the Dragon Quest series spinoffs, but most don't get localized so its a struggle. The 3DS Monsters games looked really good, too.
