This is a really unusual question, so let me know if there's a better place to post it. I borrowed the Perfect Dark Dual CD Soundtrack from my local library, but the second disc doesn't work as intended. It won't play music in a stereo and foobar2k won't read it. Instead, Windows opens it as a data disc. This is what it displays in the root directory: And this is what's inside the exegcc folder: This isn't music. Creating an ISO of the disc is only 74MB; there's no audio on this CD. install.txt tells us that os20l_eng.exe is an installer for Nintendo 64 OS2.0L, which appears to be development software from the N64 era. exegcc is a tool from Kyoto Microcomputers Co., Ltd., who partnered with Nintendo in 1996 to develop their SDK. I've done some searching, but I can't find anybody online who's ever observed this in their copy of the OST. One VGMdb user replied with evidence that theirs was working as intended. Some mutual friends reached out to Grant Kirkhope and Graeme Norgate, but neither of them could explain it, nor would I expect them to be involved at that stage of production. I'd really like to know how these kinds of files could find their way into (very few copies of) a commercially released soundtrack, and why there are no other instances reported. Does anybody here know more? Are there communities who would find this interesting?

The usual romhacking communities and/or sites such as The Cutting Room Floor would love this for sure.
Any way, this is pretty damn awesome. Did you check if your soundtrack CD had a different serial number or whatever the fuck that's called for CDs than the one usually listed? Did you just get it recently, or did it actually work before? Seriously, this is super weird and fascinating, so high five!

The Cutting Room Floor guys should be interested in that. Post this info on their forums: jul.rustedlogic.net/forum.php?id=12Also, are you sure the CD you have is an original and not a copy?

Thanks for the suggestion! I completely forgot about TCRF, I'll post over there shortly.
I can't find any catalog number printed on the cover or discs, and according to VGMdb there isn't one for this release. I'm reasonably confident it's not a bootleg, though. The album cover paper and disc texture is of professional quality, and there's no artifacting or record label logo such as many unauthorized releases carry.

This is weird as hell. I can also confirm, I've owned this CD album for a long time and both discs always played just fined as music CDs, so you must've gotten some weird misprint!
It's also really cool your library has this, it's a rare and expensive set nowadays since it only had a small print run and available only straight from Nintendo's mail order.

Holy shit, wow. That's a nice find! though... unfortunate that you can't listen to the second disc, haha. If anything though, the preservation of gaming history will be aided by your current inconvenience, so all is well :]

Surprised some fool didn't check it out and treated it poorly. I think half the discs at my library been cleaned at least once. And older stuff eventually gets tossed (not donated or sold for more library funds. Trashed.)
