The article is spot-on about the latter tacked-on levels, but yeah, the game was good for the short run it had. It really helped that I got my copy for a fraction of a dollar from HiB.

Yay. It's really weird. It is a game I often bring up in discussions about minimalist graphics, about narration, even about gender equality.... It is kind of revolutionary in a lot ways, yet very mundane in others somehow, I mean at its core it is just another puzzle plattformer..

Basically all of the above. It's not a terrible game at all, it just feels kinda like a missed opportunity. At least it's pretty enjoyable while it lasts.

I really wish they tightened the narrative a bit myself. I think the later levels would have worked with some more building to them.

To me, it was more a conversation piece than a solid game. Just something that came to existence just so people could talk about "That one game that gives more characterisation to geometric shapes than many modern games give to actual characters".

I'm curious about Volume, but I don't think my PC can handle it.

Interestingly the principle of Anthropomorphism applied to geometric shapes has been around for a while, one of the earlier examples that I know of is this psychological experiment:
EDIT: By "earlier" I mean in animated form and in a narrative context.

This game took a long time to grow on me, but by the end, I was enthralled. For whatever reason, the character switch halfway through didn't really bother me. Maybe it was because it took a while for me to "get" the game? Dunno, but now I'm itching to revisit this one.
