I remember reading a preview of the Xbox version and was disappointed that it never materialized.
That era where Sega put a lot of support behind the Xbox is a way too overlooked cache of games in my opinion, Jet Set Radio Future, Gun Valkyrie, Toejam and Earl 3, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Crazy Taxi 3, House of the Dead 3 and the Xbox port of Shenmue 2, all games that I think should be better remembered and it's a shame it didn't last long enough to include Rent a Hero.

Did anyone notice something odd about this game in emulation? The intro theme music is cutoff (the one that plays after the first few moments of gameplay are over).

Sorry to be pedantic, but one should write the game's title without hyphens, since Rent-A-Hero is a German comedic adventure game for Windows. I really would've liked to know what AM2 was planning to do with Rent A Hiroko, if anything, since Sega was usually good at doing heroines. Also, is it just me, or does Hero look kinda like a younger Captain Commando?

Also, is it just me, or does Hero look kinda like a younger Captain Commando? He absolutely does. Rent A Hero was such a letdown for me. I always imagined it would be awesome since finding out about it in Fighters Megamix, and was eagerly awaiting the fan translation. There are some genuinely cool moments, such as getting hired by a company used as a front by an evil organization and having to answer interview questions in a way suggesting that you're totally evil yourself, but the battles are awful and the game can be on the tedious side overall.

Should the first "Additional Screenshot" gallery be "System Comparison" or something like that? Anyway, around the time I sent the article news of a RAH film appeared so I couldn't add them to the text, but I would totally have added it because, honestly, it's such a weird thing. Who would care about a film about an obscure game never officially released in the West? Assuming it ever gets made, of course. Also they want to make it relevant by turning, for example, SECA into a hi-tech start-up a la Uber. But the game's appeal is that it is a time capsule of early 90s Japan, so how would it work?

I recommend checking out gamehacking.org's page on the MD game for some codes that make the experience more enjoyable, I requested and playtested them when trying out the game a while back. The combat will still be pretty bad though, compared to SF2 and the like.
