www.hardcoregaming101.net/gametengoku/gametengoku.htmA humorous shoot-em-up series from Jaleco, roughly similar to Konami's Parodius series, that includes characters from across the developer's pantheon, while also poking fun at/pandering to otaku trends of the 90s.

I've wanted to try this one for years and finally might now after reading this. I love anything "meta" in terms of games about games. My dream would be Segagaga translated.

Just a couple of things, because I'm a sad person: - I could not verify in any way if Momoko is actually hidden in the sequel. The Japanese page where I found the cheat codes for Pig's alternate versions (which worked) also gave codes to unlock Momoko but they didn't work in any way, and I haven't found any images or videos either. - I worded badly the part about the doujinshi in the end: I wasn't surprised to see people making porn of video game characters, but surprised by the fact that they made porn about THESE obscure characters, and tried to argue that, were it not for the otaku pandering, doujin makers could not have cared less. But it wasn't really clear, I admit... also I know it's not a thing HG101 usually talks about, but I thought it complemented well the theme of pandering to a niche audience. Anyway, if anyone's interested, I managed after a long research to find the manga made by Souma and temporarily uploaded it to this address. It wasn't just an impression, Jeynus actually goes after little girls. (spoiler: it's shit)

I heard that Segagaga is fan translated. I saw a YouTube video featuring an English version of the game. Edit: doesn't seem to be done as far as google is concerned.

Regarding the Tuff E Nuff thing, I love how they pretty much put the whole cover in, including the features list on the right, and even part of the Super Nintendo box design (barring the obvious Nintendo things)
As for the sequel, mainly the gun support, another game did a similar thing, that being Starsky & Hutch on the PS2 and Xbox; one player could drive the car with the pad (or a steering wheel) while a second player could shoot with the pad or a light gun, or one could do just both at the same time, and it was something that was advertised on the game's box. The GameCube version, meanwhile, didn't advertise such support, as that console never had a light gun, and the PC version let you do keyboard + mouse for that.
Also, a small thing, some of the links on the article itself are broken; they link to images stored in a non-existent "/gametengoku_files/" page rather than "/gametengoku/" as it should be.

Before reading this article, i didn't know that this game is packed with parody (including my fave character: the robot) One thing that quite interest me is homing straight-laser beam from the robot Few shooting game that have that kind of arsenal. Another example is from Raptor (windows), the (buyable) weapon is "Homing Laser" if i remember correctly

This just came in: Game Tengoku Cruisin Mix, an enhanced port of the first game, is coming to PlayStation 4 and Windows (Steam). Looks like it's gonna include Saturn's extra contents, for that matter. The release date is TBA yet. www.famitsu.com/news/201707/25138179.html

More on the Cruisin Mix: Official site is now live, as well as the English teaser above. This re-release is definitely based on Saturn version, and they just revealed brand-new character, Clarice from City Connection. Fitting choice, because the current Jaleco library owner is known as "City Connection Ltd.". The release date is still unknown, but it seems they're gonna spill more information for next several months as per usual video game PR. Also Famitsu has put up this interview with the original developers (Japanese).

I guess this overwrites Clarice's appearance in Game Tengoku 2, since she didn't look like her past self in that game. Still I didn't think people were still interested in this game even after 20 years... Well I guess my article could help newcomers to make more sense of it

See this? flyers.arcade-museum.com/?page=flyer&db=videodb&id=3112&image=1The subtitle "Cruisin'" in the latest Game Tengoku is most likely named after the North American name of the City Connection arcade by then-distributor Kitcorp, until Jaleco opened its own North American division later and released the FC/NES version with original title. Unfortunately, despite Clarice in Japanese version: The international versions changed her to some useless, nameless(?) guy, in a similar reason why Panel de Pon by Intelligent Systems and Nintendo weren't allowed to stay girly during localizations: Strangely, Puck-Man/Pac-Man attracted even female gamers. The Game Boy even had more female gamers using it than the FC/NES.

store.steampowered.com/app/663130/Game_Tengoku_CruisinMixThe game just came out today... But only the Japanese version. English localization is supposedly due next year, so you have to wait for the update. I never expected it to be any cheap given how steeply priced shoot-em-ups are, but the price tag is pretty high. The base game costs 30$, and that doesn't include the future contents. There're extra voice pack and characters on their way, like aformentioned Clarice and Homura Banto, a joke character from Based Loaded's glitch (guess this is another obscure Japanese meme). On the filp side, Degica Games has opened artwork contest to the foreigners for impending Clarice DLC until December 29th. The winner will have a chance to put their artwork in the game. Kinda similar to those reader contests of Japanese magazines back in the '80/90s.
