One of the Famicom's many Dragon Quest clones, with two major distinctions: it's a humorous story based on samurai legend Musashi Miyamoto, and it was developed by Quest, the folks that eventually went on to make Ogre Battle.
I haven't played it myself, but the fan translation seems pretty good? The enemy names have the same sort of goofy puns that the post-DQ8 English localizations use.
I think another team revised the original fan translation not long ago. Yep. The first complete patch was from way back in 2000, and that's the one I played. Apparently they had size issues and had to make cuts to the script. Chances are the author of this article played the more recent one, so it probably enhances the overall experience some.
Speaking as the author of the article, I also did the newer translation for the game :p When I wrote the article, the game was pretty fresh in my mind, so I think the article expresses my thoughts on the game pretty well. It's not as wacky as some other Japanese games, but it definitely has its moments. Not really too heavy on the puns, but there's a few in there.
