I reviewed the Finnish release of the game, which was called Splatter Master for some reason. Nyuk nyuk nyuk.
In all seriousness, though, this game is a blast. Great way to kill an afternoon on Dosbox. I was working on an indie shooty game a while back that was essentially a retro remake of this, but I never finished it, and I'm not sure what happened to the development video I used to have on youtube.
EDIT: Found it!

Wow, awesome. While I don't remember playing that exact same game, I remember playing games like this and having CDs like this and ....just wow, nice to get to know a game which got passed me the first time. I personally even like the look of the game, right down to the crappy start screen and the low res...... Thanks for covering this and bringing it to my attention. Yay.

This game is so last century... back when I was a Windows 95 snob. There are so many interesting dos games out there. Not necessarily good but always interesting. classicreload.com/assault-trooper.html

The Related Articles section has a link to a C-Dogs article, published in April. That's pretty surprising, since as far as I can tell that article has never shown up on the frontpage and it can't be found either with the search or in the alphabetical lists. E: And it's forum link is for Severed it seems.

Haha yeah, because it's not "officially" up. Like, the page is designed but it's not posted in the main site directory, but it will be soon!

Yeah, I figured it was something like that. That'll be another one aimed right at my nostalgia.

I recall this from my days at Home of the Underdogs; it's incredible how the old website is still up and functional. With the upcoming C-Dogs article too, I hope we are in for some late DOS-era stuff.

Olso mission editor are easy to use witch are nice touch.

With the upcoming C-Dogs article too, I hope we are in for some late DOS-era stuff. That's kinda what I've been specializing in lately. After this and the C-Dogs article I have two more DOS games pending: one decent game, and one that is arguably the worst of its genre ever made. And that's saying a lot. I'm also pretty surprised the old tripod site for Assault Trooper is still up. I figured Tripod had bought the farm by now. Did anyone try using the level editor yet? I never gave it a whirl.
