www.hardcoregaming101.net/plok/plok.htmJohn and Ste Pickford's dadaist SNES platformer stands out from the typical 16-bit platformer fare, especially due to its excellent soundtrack by the Follin brothers.

I never got around to play Plok back in the day, despite knowing about the game. Wasn't really until I stumbled on the Pickfords' (hilariously chaotic) web comic that I decided to pick up the game on emulation. Looks and feels like a tyical Amiga platformer at first (despite never having been released on Amiga), but it's definitely a very enjoyable ride.

Good article about a very fun game, but about half of it seems to be about the soundtrack, and at the end there's a "?" where I guess a meter should be (don't ask me which one - I suck at identifying complicated time signatures). It's well deserved, but I'm not 100% sure how much the average reader will be able to get out about these information (I certainly appreciated it though).
As far as the game itself goes, I loved it as a kid, but only ever beat it on emulation due to, as mentioned, the length, difficulty and continue system. Brilliant art direction, too, and just an all-out awesome in-game world. The game was heavily advertised by Nintendo in Germany (made the cover of Nintendo's in-house magazine); not sure if that was a leftover from early interest / publishing plans from Nintendo. It was even translated into German; a rare feat for a platformer during that era. (DKC and SMW2 got translated, of course, but SMW and All-Stars did not)

No word on the fact that Plok's design predated by chance both Rayman and Dynamite Headdy? Or is it too obvious?

HG101 basically has every other notable game of the '80s and '90s covered, so I'm surprised there wasn't already an article on Plok. Either way, it's a great article for a great game. I'm still eagerly awaiting Adventure Island and Bomberman articles
