I'll say something, it's kind of weird for me that this franchise is titled "Sim". I know it's meant to be an abbreviation of simulation, the thing is that in Portuguese Sim means Yes.

Man, I thought being able and drive trough your city was the coolest feature. Didn't Theme Park on PSX also let you ride you attractions?

Not sure about Theme Park PSX, but the sequel Theme Park World did let you ride them.

There was originally a quote from Huizinga at the start of the article to frame the perspective of the discussion. The HG101 editors took it out, which is fine, but it does make the Huizinga references later in the piece seem "out of nowhere". I didn't realize SC2000 for PSX had the driving mode. I should have mentioned it - looking at the textures, fog, and roads, it seems very clearly to be using a software-rendered implementation of the SimCopter engine.

Sim City 64 for the N64DD also had 3D roam modes, though many of them are more "rides" to view your city in first-person, while going on foot allowed you to play a minigame of finding a citizen within the alloted time.

This article fails to mention that in SimCopter, not only can you steal that Apache gunship from a military base if your city has one, but it is fully armed and allows you to shoot down speeding cars. Or fire missiles into a nuclear power plant, which will then melt down and explode, destroying most of the city.
Basically, SimCopter was secretly the proto-GTA all along. Loved that game so much. Used to make my own pseudo-Urban Strike type thing by creating maps in SCURK for Apache carnage.
