Anyway, I guess you can add Dead Space to the pile of dead franchises since EA has closed Visceral games. Or Army Of Two for that reason. I only tried the 2nd game, it seemed rather decent. ** Did some searching on Timesplitters series today. Apart from some vague fans freeware project, i'd say it's pretty much R.I.P. Also i wouldn't count on a new Red Faction release anymore.

OK another landfill =Mercenaries & Destroy all humans It died with creator Pandemic -Duke Nukem Gearbox wasted IP -No One Lives forever Just Another Contract killer finished series for good There was a third Mercenaries game planned but it was canceled. There was a rumor that Gearbox was working on a Duke Nukem prequel called "Duke Begins" but nothing has been seen, it's possible the character is just so un-PC they decided to leave it be. No one knows who owns the rights to NOLF anymore which has prevented a modern digital re-release, which is a crying shame, someone could very easily do a spiritual successor game though that's another spy themed shooter set in the 60s.

Gearbox is currently pouring everything into Borderlands 3, so Duke might still happen later. Hard to believe they'd acquire the IP just to release Forever (and re-release 3D). Duke's more campy and corny than un-PC anyway.

Isn't Bionic Commando dead? After a much-panned brand new game in 2009, and an equally panned 2011 sequel to the more-beloved 2008 version, it seems like the franchise is toast.

Duke's more campy and corny than un-PC anyway. This is true, but people don't understand context anymore, if they kept the same old "shake it baby!" Duke it would inevitably inspire outrage somewhere. And if they did try to change with the times, then it's not really Duke Nukem anymore, so you risk either pissing the fans or pissing off moral watchdogs, so it's kind of a can't win situation. But I would love to see a new Duke Nukem in the vein of Doom 2016 though.

I always felt that Volition would have been the best fit for a new Duke game. But after Agents of Mayhem failed, I think we might be seeing a new post here pretty soon, if you catch my drift.

Saints Row? Yeah, Volition's probably not long for the world which is a real shame, as the Saints Row series was a blast, but they made a big time mistake by not simply making a Saints Row 5 and instead going the Overwatch "hero shooter" route (sort of anyway) in an overcrowded market of that sort of thing.

Breath of Fire has always been my go-to answer, but I never expected that one day Castlevania would be the one... Probably in my top 3 franchises and I would kill for another solid entry. At least I'll always have Castlevania Adventure Rebirth and Order of Ecclesia I suppose...

I think the Turok series might be dead. When The Last Of Us 2 was first announced, for a second, the chatroom was full of TUROK TUROK TUROK-messages which was damn funny.

I think the Turok series might be dead. There need to be more games with dinosaurs.

At least I'll always have Castlevania Adventure Rebirth and Order of Ecclesia I suppose... It's a shame about Castlevania, but one way to look at it though is Castlevania is really quite lucky, the Aria/Dawn games provide a pretty neat and tidy finale to the series story, the Lords of Shadow games are explicitly their own continuity, which makes it easier to not get upset over them, it's not like Silent Hill which was run into the ground with games ostensibly in the same continuity or Metal Gear where Kojima himself was forced to keep going until he was almost out of ideas and then to have the last entry with him released literally unfinished. So if all these Konami franchises have to be over, better they go out like Castlevania did than Metal Gear and Silent Hill. One can make the argument that not every video game series needs to go on forever and ever, Castlevania is one of the few in which you can say there's a pretty definitive "the end" and that beats just petering and out and ending on a cliffhanger like Metal Gear.
