If you're like me and have the memory that I do, 2008 feels like yesterday and I can actually remember exactly what I was playing ten years ago, thought it might be fun to look back on what you were playing ten years ago to the month, if you can remember.
For me in January of 2008 I was playing the original Mass Effect, which I got for Christmas, really blows me away to think that was a full decade ago.
However I remember thinking Mass Effect was more of a game of interesting ideas than stellar execution, take exploring planet surfaces with the Mako, cool idea but so much of it was just copy paste.
However if you used your imagination a bit it was still a solid game and I loved the soundtrack, first time I ever heard anything use a retro synth soundtrack and I loved how well thought out the world of Mass Effect was, it was like a blend of Star Trek and Star Wars, it's a shame no entry every fully lived up to its potential.

January 2008 I played Gyakuten Saiban 3, Rune Factory, and Dragon Quest III. The two games with a three in there are even pretty good, the other one not so much.

I was still on my Falcom kick in 2008, so I know for sure I played Zwei II, since it just came out that year. Kind of funny that ten years later, I'm working on QA for its predecessor!
I also had just gotten my Wii in 2008, so I definitely spent at least some of the year playing Opoona. What a great game that was.

I was pretty into the Wii at this point in 2008. I was playing Super Mario Galaxy, which I'd gotten for Christmas, and later in January 2008 would go on to play games like No More Heroes, and Contra 4 for the DS. I was basically catching up on gaming still, after spending most of my teen years (2002-2006 or so) feeling burnt out on gaming.

Well, ~2006 was when I really started to get back into retro games, more specifically MD and GB on real hardware (GBA SP for the latter) but also on a wider scale in emulation and that sort of peaked around '08-09. I was trying pretty much every game in several libraries, taking an interest in romhacks and fan translations, modding my PS2 to play retro games and so on. 2-3 years later I was made aware of indie games and off and on was pretty excited about that whole movement of sorts, well mainly the smaller scale and unconventional side of things. That interest dwindled in recent years though. I never really recovered from the retro thing, I still only play ~5-10 modern games per year.
Anyway, some games that I think I played a bunch ~2008: Rocket Knight Adventures, Contra: Hard Corps, Panorama Cotton, Thunder Force IV, Mole Mania, Nemesis 2, Wario Land 2, Catrap, Bionic Commando GB, MM9, Braid.

Early 2008 I was still around 2 years off from buying an Xbox 360, so I was playing PS2 and DS games.
I didn't get a Backloggery account until a year later, so I'm a bit fuzzy on what games I was playing that year. Probably Radiata Stories or Grandia 3 for PS2 and Lunar Knights, PW Justice for All, Kirby Squeak Squad and Portrait of Ruin for DS.

It actually reminds me why i skipped these games entirely--"fireworky" presentation. You could see a lot of those without going outside on New Year's Eve and have your fingers intact too.

Halo 3, Gears of War and/or Chromehounds, probably. I remember playing Halo 3 to death around that time, must've completed the game at least five times alone or with my brothers.

No clue what that's supposed to mean. Too many sparkles everywhere especially in the shooting segments. You see, i'd rather veer into something like maybe.. F.E.A.R. or classic Quake or recently announced Witchfire, but not this. Never say never tho..

All I can remember is replaying Rogue Galaxy, but I was mainly playing DS, Wii and PS2 games then. The Wii I had bought just before Super Mario Galaxy came out. I was at Target buying towels or something and they just happened to have one in stock. I was too clever on launch day and went to a chain, along with a handful of other people, that I was sure would sell it but wasn't known as a place that sold video games. Suffice to say, they didn't actually sell it probably because they assumed it would flop, and the entire chain went out of business a few months later. I was convinced that it'd be almost impossible to actually pick one up on launch day, but I later learned that the same Target had just enough stock to cover everyone who was there before the store opened 🤦♀️

I think I was working on fan-translating Dragon Scroll for the Famicom, maybe still beta-testing the fan-translation of Emerald Dragon SFC. Not sure if I was making my first attempts at playing Pokemon Pearl and/or Ruby. (I think I got Pearl shortly before Platinum was released, which wouldn't have been until 2009.)

2008 would have been about the time my Ace Attorney madness was in full gear...but it'd also be about when I got my first PS3, the Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle.

I forgot about the GBA games; I believe the fan translation of Mother 3 was completed in '08 and that's one of my fav RPGs.
