Nice sleuthing. It seems Wikipedia is spreading misinformation again. Not the first time. The 2600 Adventure release date is another "classic" of theirs. Or just a simple mistake. Did you check the citation on where they got the info from? Yes, this is more the fault of the source article given as cite. www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/video-games/issues/issue_237/7041-When-the-Stars-Align.4Starflight's direct legacy encompassed several games: Johnson went on to make ToeJam & Earl, also set in space; Joe Ybarra made Protostar, while Paul Reiche was so taken by the idea of a big space epic that he pitched the idea of Star Control to Accolade
Nothing really in depth here. From the questbusters reports I speculate that what happened here is that Ybarra was affilated at some point with a company called Tsunami, but not Tsunami Media, which was the one of the Protostar makers.

At least the first two Dirt games were still part of the Colin McRae series, and bore his name above the title everywhere except North America. Dirt 3 was the first installment to drop the McRae branding worldwide, presumably due to the less active role he took in motorsport following his death years earlier. Micro Machines > Toybox Turbos counts, though. How about Rise of the Triad? It began life as a sequel to Wolfenstein 3D, with which it shared director Tom Hall.

It's inevitable when someone goes like that. Even Tom Clancy has slowed down on the Splinter Cells, though he's still getting them out once in a while.

Langrisser > Growlanser.
Although, this is a curious example, because Career Soft continued to making Langrisser games for Masaya for awhile after they started making Growlanser games for Atlus.

Even though the later one does play quite a bit differently, but maybe
Etrian Odyssey > 7th Dragon?

Langrisser > Growlanser. Although, this is a curious example, because Career Soft continued to making Langrisser games for Masaya for awhile after they started making Growlanser games for Atlus. I don't wanna be that guy, but Growlanser is not a clone of Langrisser. There are quite different. The only similarity could be the char design, because of the master char designer Satoshi Urushihara. Although, they are different. In Langrisser, they tried to cater male people with the char designs, Growlanser has many otome like characters and characters in their 40's, they tried to cater to the female audience. There was once a famous picture with Oscar and he tried to make Ernest drunk. Another significant point: If you read the packshot of Langrisser V, you will see that the subtitle is "The end of a legend". It was intended to be the last game of the Langrisser series. After that, Masaya changed the company and tried different economy tactics (it was called beautiful girls series, it destroyed kinda the company). I wrote that once for a french website years ago. Career Soft still had a friendly relationship with Masaya. Now, the key people are kinda dying in Atlus. Hirata wanted to do Radiant Historia 2, instead he got the useless 3ds thingy with stupid dlc. Takada is forced to SMT spinoffs and if they are successful, then the Persona B Team will handle the sequel. And many other stories. Yours sincerely Jack Caeylin

Frogger > Ribbit
Though this may be considered an inverse case, since here it's the publisher (Sega) who lost the rights and then made a clone.

Radiata Stories > Radiant Historia The games are really nothing alike though (aside from being RPGs in the broad sense).
