Something being "good" is not always the same as "enjoyable". I'm sure Citizen Kane is a good movie, but I'd much rather watch Commando (which is full of plot holes and goofs).

In my personal experience, it's the other way around: The original (whatever that's supposed to mean) is always better. I see this a lot on Youtube, and it's a variant of "kids these days".

But you're right that it's bullshit most of the time, just recently I saw on Youtube a video of these two nerds talking about how much better toys were in the 80s, the decade they happened to be children in, versus the 90s, what a coincidence! I think this is in part an issue with people assuming that "objective" criticism is possible, ignoring that a review/critique always is an opinion. The best thing you can get is a broad consensus (e.g. most people agree that Superman 64 is bad), but it's ultimately subjective.
