After a great release of Gradius Portable last year Konami, has now released 3 other shooter compilations on the PSP. They are Twinbee Portable, Salamander Portable, and Parodius Portable. Unfortunately it looks as if they are not going to be released outside of Japan. Which one is your pick to import? I'm having a tough time deciding between Salamander and Parodius.

Parodius Portable, since it has more recent titles that I don't own for any other system. If I had the funds though, I'd get all three.

If I hadn't put myself on a budget recently, these would all be mine.
Of all of those, the Salamander Collection piques my interest the most. I really don't like Life Force or Salamander all that much (the NES version is much much better), and Salamander 2 has an excellent soundtrack and some decent graphics, but it's short and easy, and not all that interesting otherwise. But XEXEX? A real port of it? Oh yeah.
I heard somewhere they were doing "grade up" ports of older games. Like Twinbee comes a completely redone version of the GB game Twinbee Da! The screenshots looked really nice. Apparently they're doing the same thing with Parodius MSX and Gradius 2 MSX although I haven't seen any screenshots nor read anything confirmed. It's possible that the source I read was wrong and they're just putting MSX emulations on there, which is a bit lame. They would be decent games but the scrolling is terrible.

Personally, I'd get Parodius because I have the PC-E version of Salamander. Though, you should get Salamander Portable. Solid game.

I'll get them all eventually...when I get a PSP. That thing is still too costly for me to buy it.

Yeah Kurt, I had to put myself on a budget, too! Being a student and not having a job really kills the wallet! Otherwise I, too, would be getting all three. For now, I think I'm going to get the Porodius one just because I don't own any of them, as I own Life Force for the NES (not that that's the best version at all but I still own it).

I have all three. Parodius collection is brilliant, although the original Parodius game is a bit crap - the one only released on the msx.
A very nice feature allows you to listen to any of the music in the game.
Sexy Parodius is probably my favourite shooter ever.

I'd personally like all 3, hell if Rondo can finally make it's way here, what's stopping Konami from doing the same for these 3 collections.

I'd personally like all 3, hell if Rondo can finally make it's way here, what's stopping Konami from doing the same for these 3 collections. It's definitely a pleasant surprise to see Rondo finally get an official American release, but when you think about it, it makes perfect sense considering the popularity of the series here. The Salamander, Parodius, and TwinBee games, though, are neither as well-known nor as marketable as Castlevania is to see an American release happening any time soon (though Salamander Portable has a better chance than the other two, especially Parodius Portable, what with its combination of a cutesily oddball exterior and slightly perverted content). Not that it matters to me; the PSP is region-free and these games are all very import friendly. As for what I'd pick, all three eventually, but if I could only get them one by one, then Parodius first, followed by Salamander, and TwinBee for last.

Not that it matters to me; the PSP is backwards compatible and these games are all very import friendly. Do you mean region-free?
