Me and my roommate have been playing R-Type I all night on my PSX R-Types. We are currently stuck trying to beat level 7. IT'S SUCH A BITCH!!!!!!!!! Anyway, I own all of the games in the series besides R-Type Leo (for obvious reasons) and R-Type III (I'm probably going to download the Wii VC version when I get to it). I've never beaten any of the games but I still love them even though they are challenging as all hell. I want to ask you guys which R-Type games have you beaten and which one is your favorite out of the series?

I've beaten the GBC version of 1&2, III, and Final. Of those, III was my favorite, but I really need to play more definitive versions of 1&2.
Final would have been a lot better if it could have kept a consistent speed. The combination of the extreme difficulty, checkpoint-based continues, and the slowdown makes playing through the game take much longer than it should. You almost defeated Dobkeratops's third form and want to try again? Just go back to before the battle began, let the game slowly scroll you over to and into the tank, fight the first and second forms which has by now become rote, wait through a couple transformation sequences while continuing to dodge stuff, and then you can get another chance.
update: I was cleaning today, and found R-types for PS1. I had forgot that I bought it on ebay in November.

I've beaten Leo and FINAL. I really want to track down Delta.
However I must say that I really don't care much for the series. It's TOO memorization heavy for my tastes (which are more attuned to having multiple weapon combinations and areas on the screen you can use to dodge, rather than one).
The later titles really improved upon that problem, but it's still too frustrating for my tastes, and I managed to get to the boss-rush in Gradius III arcade (III&IV pack, but that's still displaying a bit of patience).

I beat Leo, Final, I, and III. I love R-Type II and Delta also but I suck at both of them.

I've beaten Leo, Delta, II, III and R-Type Final. The first R-Type is too dang hard for me!! I don't have the skills to dodge those damn swirly things in level 8 for some reason. There's a trick though, in level 7– if you mash yourself up against the boss (there's a little space right above and a little to the left of the boss) you can stick in one spot, completely out of harms way, and blast 'im. I dunno if tha works for the arcade version though– works on the Pc-Engine.
Oh, and my favorite is a tie between Delta and the first one– I was dissapointed with the second iteration, and R-Type Final was literally too much of a good thing. Leo is just... it's fun but it's very un-R-Type-ish.

Played and beat Final. I'm trying to get R-Types for the PS later on. One of the major things I didn't like about Final was the music. It's pratically non-existant in the first level.

I've beaten 3 and Leo. I've got the entire series emulated, except for Final (obviously), which I have a hard copy of.

I've beaten Super R-Type and Delta, but only on the easiest difficulties. I want to get Final but the slowness of it that I've heard has kept me away. In general though, I find all the R-type games to be slow paced.

I've beaten I, II, III, Final and Leo, despite not being that much into the series. I guess my favorites are the first two, although 3 used to be before I gave the first two a proper go. Final is a good game but a little too broken, and Leo is just meh. I need to track down Delta one of thees days, but Gradius 1&2 and Gaiden come first.

I'm playing R-Type III now and I have to say it is my favorite in the series so far. I'm having a bit of trouble with this guy though: His movement is not very predictable and the slanted wall kills me a lot. IREM are a bunch of jerks...

I'm having a bit of trouble with this guy though: His movement is not very predictable and the slanted wall kills me a lot. IREM are a bunch of jerks... I see you're using the classic Force pod there. Just toss it and right in front of him and then try to get the thing to hit the boss as much as possible. You also have a lot of space to maneuver around when it jumps around too, so just take your time. You can also finish the fight faster and risk getting yourself killed in the process by actually going right in front of him yourself and then hyper beam it to death. Edit: I actually had the hardest time trying to finish the next stage.

Oh, just mash yourself in the top right corner like you're doing... then, after it does the fast walk upwards and goes back down, hover above its leg-- when it jumps get under the thing and stay close to the left wall so it doesn't smash ya. Let 'er rip with a fully charged hyper beam and you're good to go.
And yes, daijoubu, stage 4 is dang hard... and he boss of that stage is the toughest in the game (in my opinion).
