I think this applies to a lot games where sequels stayed in the arcades, but the predecessors got a lot of ports e.g. Snow Bros 2 Operation Wolf 3 I'd say the mobile Paperboy games could also count e.g. www.mobygames.com/game/paperboy-wheels-on-fireAlthough arguably the N64 game that came before was already somewhat obscure I guess.

I submit Super Missile Attack, the arcade sequel to Missile Command:

Wait.... Operation Wolf... 3?!?!?!
That entails there was an Operation Wolf 2.
(Probably no surprise I'm just learning this as Operation Wolf was one of those games I kept running across but never really looked at, so I knew it existed but not that it had spawned a series).

That would be Operation Thunderbolt. Also if spiritual sequels count, Castlevania:Order of Ecclesia takes it's gameplay and map design from the two Shaman King games on the GBA.

Tetris II is somewhat obscure, probably because there were 1,000 de facto sequels before it came out.

Or because people saw all the dudes in the commercial exploding and thus assumed Tetris II was a literal bomb.

Tetris II is somewhat obscure, probably because there were 1,000 de facto sequels before it came out. It's more confusing. BPS actually made "Tetris 2+BomBliss" in Japan first (1991, compared to the other game made in 1993). In addition to containing the Bombliss game as specified, the game engine resembled the Nintendo version of Tetris (as the Nintendo NES/SNES version of Tetris was never explicitly released in Japan), which probably was a significant improvement over the BPS version of Tetris released in Japan, to warrant calling it a sequel (except that unlike the Nintendo NES release, it contains a two-player mode).
I'd call Tetris Flash (western Tetris 2) more of a Dr. Mario sequel, personally.

Chase H.Q. 2 (2006/Arcade) featuring smoking hot chicks Double S.T.E.A.L. The Second Clash - The Japanese exclusive Xbox-only sequel to Wreckless The Yakuza Missions Phase Paradox - Japan-only sequel to the Psx shmup Philosoma, except now it's like a survival horror game minus the horror. Virtua Cop 3 which finally got emulated this week www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGUZDZ7dSAc before this you had to do a very complicated 128mb ram mod on your Xbox to get it to run cause it was made for the Chihiro which is basically a xbox arcade with more ram.

A couple of people are aware of the First-Person Shooter Blood by Monolith... but a lot of people seem unaware that there was a Blood II. Maybe because it sucked and killed the franchise?
Anyway, I don't think most people ever cared or knew about Dig Dug II and Donkey Kong 3 (the one with the bug exterminator... wonder if he'll ever come back in another Nintendo game, maybe the next Super Smash Bros). Prehistorik Man was also ignored despite being a much better game than the predecessor, then again a backlash against 2D games was going on at the time. The PSP Ghosts 'n Goblins game is basically ignored too.

I feel like Aldo's Adventure is obscure on its own, but there's even more obscure sequels in Aldo Again and Aldo's Assault!

I submit Super Missile Attack, the arcade sequel to Missile Command:
This is a very famous bootleg/conversion board for existing Missile Command machines. The company that made it got sued by Atari over it.

-Ghostbusters 2 for NES Because there two of them who claim the spot. And NEW Ghostbusters 2 by HAL are better choice of course if you live in Europe(Lucky me) -The Legend of Kage 2 Never expected they made it, Even they improve story because first LOK game are endless Arcade Game(Even you reach true ending. -Spartan X 2 Because only released in Japan, olso diffrent style, but still gameplay feeling much are the same. -RC Revenge & RC Revenge Pro RC Revenge are sequel to Re-Volt, Its fine game but never catch eye of Re-Volt fans. Oh! and that Re-Volt 2 & 3 for mobile are disgrace to Re-Volt name.

What about Super Contra? No home ports and personally I never knew it even existed until a few years ago, despite being a big fan of the first one.
Then there is Spelunker 2, both the Nes one and the Arcade one.

Then there is Spelunker 2, both the Nes one and the Arcade one. Super Contra is Super C. The name was left intact on the Famicom but the NES version changed the name because of politics.
