Was this the first time or a replay? First time ever. I've only just recently bought it.

Mega Man 5, PS4, Legacy Collection (replay, approx. 1 hour 12 min.)
This is one of the least memorable in the series for me. I've only played it a handful of times, and I still don't remember the stages, or even boss weaknesses. Beat and Protoman were the most noteworthy parts of this game. And everything else was a blur. It's also one of the easiest games in the series. E-cans are quite generous, though you really don't need them. Even more mysterious is the "L" Can that Protoman gives to you. And apparently lightning strikes twice for Yusuke Murata (the artist for Eyeshield 21 and One Punch Man). After creating Dust Man, his submission for Crystal Man also gets used for Mega Man 5.
Subjective score: 6.5/10. Formulaic Mega Man fare by this point. Colorful graphics, rather forgettable music.

Reigns: Her Majesty (Switch, First Time)
Definitely a one step forward two steps back situation. The adventure elements are a little stronger, but being born under a specific zodiac sign is introduced which adds even more tedium to the proceedings since you need to be under the right sign for some events to occur. You do get the ability to change your sign fairly early on, but it requires going to the hedgemaze which you can only get to randomly. The already slight simulation element also loses some features taking with it the small bit of occasional excitement they did provide.
If anything, this game is very hamstrung by the format. The passage of time is an important element in the first one, but its completely without any real gameplay relationship here. Some of the clues are also even more randomly doled out by characters that also spout nonsense. This could have been pretty fun as a regular adventure game, but being even more at the mercy of the RNG is just awful. The Switch version also has bugs that the original doesn't have on Switch but also manages to actually end properly which is bizarre.
I think these games are better off played in their original mobile setting with little bursts of playtime. Trying to actually sit down and play them as regular games just exposes has tedious and repetitive they are. My main take away has mostly been "I took a break from Ys VIII for this!"

Ninja Gaiden - NES via Switch - Replay - ~2.5 hours
8/10
Classic and a childhood favorite. Legendary difficulty towards the end but definitely manageable if you’ve got the patience. I’ll take this series over the 3D incarnation any day. Bonus rating points for nostalgia, the podcast’s criminally low rating, and Irene’s hair.

Tekken 7 (PS4, first playthrough) - ~3 hours - 6/10
Did a playthrough of the story mode and all of the individual character episodes. Can't say I was a fan of the centralized story mode versus ones for each character. I guess the character episodes are that in a smaller form but I like playing these games for the wacky endings and it wasn't as great here as usual. Didn't look like there was much else going on for single player content so I sent this back to Gamefly and maybe I'll pick up on my own copy later if I want to fully get into this.
What was with forcing players to use assisted/auto combos on the lowest difficulty in story mode. I can understand them as an option but it was annoying. The second difficulty was a bit too much for me. There isn't much room to improve/learn things when you're locked into pre-baked combos with no other options.
Spyro the Dragon (PS4, first playthrough) - 6 hours, 28 minutes - 7/10
Played this all the time in my childhood but never actually made substantial progress (never played anything past the second world). It was nice to actually get around to beating this even if it was in a remaster.
Similarly to the Crash remaster there were definitely things that felt off. Some of the physics/hit boxes, especially in the gliding stages felt off which got frustrating after a bit. I don't know how much of this is accurate to the base games as is versus new things. (I know the hitboxes and slippery ledges are exclusive to the Crash remaster.)
Going to play 2 and 3 soon but I hope they don't follow a similar trajectory that the Crash games did (an increased focus on gimmicks/mini-games).

Ninja Gaiden (NES)
Finally beat this game for the first time. I really had to grind the final boss, and therefore the last level, for days. And each day, for hours at a time. Somehow the game stayed fun through it all. I really can't give a time estimate on this, probably around 15 hours on level 6. I'm a little worried about my NES controller now, It doesn't quite feel like it used to

Evoland (Windows)
First time playing. 4/10 Not an interesting game at all. Took 4 hours. The game loves to reference other RPGs and all I could think was how I'd rather play all the games it makes callbacks towards. The art is admittedly nice, the gameplay is intentionally basic and as shallow as possible.
I'll quote a random steam review: "The game seems to go out of its way to avoid anything original, and while I understand that's the point, it's not exactly fun or interesting. Even the final boss simply spouts out a reference and then dies."

The first Evoland isn't all that good—it was a cheap mobile game originally—but Evoland 2 isn't too bad. If you picked up the compilation that came out this week, the sequel is a real full length game with a plot.

Chuck Rock II: Son of Chuck (SMS) First time, I'd estimate approx 3 hours to complete. I remember playing the first Chuck Rock when I was younger (when everything was awesome) enjoying it quite a bit, only to come back and play it as an adult and to find it a bit crap. So I was surprised to find this was a pretty competent platformer. Gameplay is what you'd expect, mostly going from left to right jumping over pits, whacking enemies with your club. There are a couple of race levels where you have to tap the buttons alternating as fast as you can, and most levels add a gimmick or two to keep things interesting such as one level has a volcano which rains down intermittently or another where you lure a monkey with bananas. Levels are generally straightforward but usually have a number of secret areas to find which either contain bottles (to replenish life) candy (which is just for score) or Lives, though these are rare! Graphically this is amongst the best on the Master System, excellent use of colours, and great variety of levels. Probably the only disappointing thin about how it looks is the last level which is a fairly generic sewer levels which is mostly grey. Music is decent but nothing you'd remember after playing. I'd give it a surprising 7/10
Running Battle (SMS) First time, 30 mins Poor action game, run left to right smacking enemies with crappy hit detection, picking up guns that feel pitiful even by 8 bit standards , lame bosses, except the last which was a admittedly pretty cool fight against some kind of attack helicopter. Decent graphics and forgettable music. Game has a story. I think it was about revenge but I didn't pay much attention. 3/10
The House of the Dead 3 (Xbox via 360 BC) First time, 25 mins (24.59.96 according to game timer) This is a bit of a step backward from Hotd2, which offered many different paths, this seems to just have two paths that are determined by a choice you make at the start of the 2nd level, opposed to environmental and gameplay triggers. Other than that the only other major difference is that you are using a shotgun now, which makes needing to be accurate against regular zombies a thing of the past! Bosses still pose a threat, but the regular mobs are hardly intimidating in this entry. Also doesn't include an 'original' mode like the previous entry. I think if I paid full price for this back in the day I'd be disappointed, but as it was cheap as chips (and it does contain HotD2 aswell) I can't complain to much, as at its core it is still quite a bit of fun! 7/10
Streets of Rage 2 (Mega Drive via Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection on 360 First time, probably 3.5 hours So I didn't really care for the first SoR game back in the day so never really gave the sequels a chance, despite hearing how good this one was especially. Wow! This must be one of the most improved sequels ever! Everything is improved. The characters feel so much better to move around, the feeling of impact when you attack, the improved move list in a set of much more diverse playing characters. All the different enemy types and figuring the best way to attack each. Each level looks distinct, and great for a MD game. The chaos that commonly happens compared to its console contemporaries, fighting 5 enemies at once makes a huge difference compared to some of the stuff I've played recently. Really fantastic sequel, look forward to giving 3 a proper try, even though the common consensus seems to be this is the pinnacle! 9.5/10

Decent graphics and forgettable music. Game has a story. I think it was about revenge but I didn't pay much attention. 3/10 I decided to try that one despite your bad review, just because the video didn't make it look all that bad. Holy shit, you weren't kidding. This is one of the worst games I've ever played. It has no concept of hit detection, the hand-to-hand combat is incredibly awful as it's almost impossible to hit enemies without getting hit at the same time. Enemies are always jumping and walking into your sprites, and since there's no pushback, it just creates a mass of jumbled sprites where it becomes impossible to really fight. The guns make it all little more playable at first, but later levels are even worse so it negates that advantage. There's there automated guns that shoot lasers at you, and you can jump kick them, but the game is so poorly made that it always takes like 4-5 attempts before you actually hit them even if your foot is clearly on them each time. Speaking of the jump kick, the distance and arc of the jump makes it pretty much impossible to hit anything with it. Boss fights are horrible, since you can't use guns. I'm impressed you even had the patience to finish it. I made it "Milacle Man", then stopped the game when I realized it wanted me to redo the level before (which had its own boss battle, so WTF) after using a Continue. There are also times where you just seem to fall through the floor and die. Clearly, this game was slapped together in a hurry. I'd give it a 1/10. It's really, really bad. Apparently the same developer (Opera House) made another Master System game called Double Hawk, similar to Cabal. The only review I've found (not that I've looked for long) gives it a 33% score.

Spelunky HD (Windows 10/Steam), or just Spelunky.
Didn't get a very good score since I always buy a lot of stuff (including the Ankh), and I don't really focus on treasure anymore in worlds 3 and 4.
The winning run took me about 35 minutes, but altogether it took me ~50 hours to beat this version. I've beaten the freeware version a couple of times before but the HD version was a lot harder to me for some reason. So feel free to count this as a replay or a first time play. I have yet to see the city of gold in this version as well, even though I found that easier to do that beating the game in the freeware version. Obviously, I haven't been to hell yet either.
Spelunky 2 pretty much is my most anticipated game for 2019.
Oh, and the rating is a 10/10, but that's needless to say.

Doom 3: BFG Edition (Windows)
I went into this game thinking it was really cool. My playthrough lasted 8.5 hours, and unfortunately, 6 of those hours were spent in complete boredom. The first hour and some of the end game was a little fun. I think part of the reason why I didn't enjoy most of the game was the combat. The guns don't feel all that great to shoot, and you fight a LOT of the same demons over and over and over again. The map variety is REALLY lacking with most of the areas looking EXACTLY the same. So naturally when the locale changed ONCE in the second half of the game I was pretty happy about it. I give it an arbitrary 5.25 / 10 First time playing

Every time I play that, I end up messing up. 99% of the time, I do too. But I think what makes Spelunky so brilliant is that you always feel like you could be on your winning run. You always feel like you have a chance.

Leisure Suit Larry 1 - In the Land of the Lounge Lizards (1991 VGA version / DOS)
A decent little adventure game. It took me about four hours, and it was my first play through. I can't think of a whole lot to say about it, other than it was funny, and I enjoyed my time with it.
