Super Mario Bros, NES (replay, about 1 hour)
I always forget how those damn trick maze sequences go. The game isn't nearly as hard as I remember, though I still died a fair amount of times. I may try Super Mario Bros 2./Lost Levels next. Maybe.
7/10.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (Switch, Replay)
It's been forever since I replayed this if I ever have at all. I picked up all 3 DS games when Trials and Tribulations came out, so it's been a while. What struck me the most was how this feels like it should be the second game in the series with the first one missing. In particular, replacing Mia with Maya and going into Edgeworth's backstory both feel like things that "belong" in a sequel since you barely spend any time with either of them. Rise from the Ashes though was a little worse than I remembered mainly because the gameplay is a little more finicky than any of the original cases. There's also too much story trying to be crammed into one case so it feels a little rushed towards the end.
In terms of the remake itself, the graphics are a little bland but serviceable. It isn't as much of a step down as it was when I played Full Throttle Remastered. In that case the excellent pixel art ended up looking like bland flash animations in the cutscenes although the sprites gained a little detail. Here, the new art looks more like drawings. Objectively, they're don't lose any detail or look off model, but there's a certain charm that's missing. It would have been nice to have the option for the original graphics if only to compare the two. The first game is the most reserved, so it'll be interesting to see how the sequels come across.

OK then. Claiming Crash Bandicoot as part of the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy for Xbox One X. Not my first time beating Crash 1, and cleared in 3 hours, 32 minutes. Also cleared the Stormy Ascent bonus level. Scientific game rating: 9/10. Still great after all these years, and the 4K remastered visual and analog controls are much appreciated. The two bridge stages with the warthogs and turtles can still fuck off, though. I'm sure I'm in the minority when I say I find the first game an above average platformer at best. I completed it around 1997. The 2nd and 3rd in the series are excellent though, especially for the PS1 which has its share of bad 3D platformers.

I think the first two are pretty bland and mediocre in general, but the third is a classic.

Path to Mnemosyne (Switch, First Time)
Honestly, this is just not good. I picked it up because the PC version had good reviews, but that was a mistake. This is more or less a puzzle game where you control a little girl (fairly inexplicably) down a path with some puzzles strewn about. There's a very vague story involving finding lost memories, but it's so sketchy that it might as well not exist. The setting is just the path along with some pretty random imagery thrown together. If there's any meaning behind anything, it's lost on me. The very worst parts are that the puzzles are beyond easy, and it's scarcely an hour long. At $10, this is basically highway robbery.

Environmental Station Alpha (Windows) - First playthrough, Time: 21:50:14 What an amazing "little" metroidlike. I've already gushed about it plenty in the general chat thread, but this is easily one of the best in the genre and woefully underappreciated hidden gem. Beat the game on Normal (=Very Hard) with 100% Completion. I know there's a sizeable amount of hidden content, bosses and multiple endings, so I'll keep playing it at least a while more, but I'll take this opportunity to claim it. (There's a lot of fluff in that timer, since I spent a ton of time exploring and often had the game running on background while doing something else. You could probably easily get 100% completion in under ten hours) Rating: 5/5 Alphabet Challenge: ABC-E-------MNO---S-------

Cleared Agartha for Windows in 3 hours. First time. It's a charming ultra pixelated puzzle-platformer where the main challenge is figuring out how to successfully navigate or dig through each stage using a variety of characters with limited resources. 7/10. I'm going to use the time you gave as the reference time as I can't find anything for it.

Cleared Fast Loop Beat Racer GT for Windows in 6 hours. First time. Rating: 5/10. It's a pretty mediocre Maximum Tune clone with less than satisfying handling for an arcade driving game and annoying difficulty spikes. It's only real advantage is that you only need to pay one upfront $10 fee, unlike the $50-80+ minimum to max out a car in Maximum Tune in an arcade.

Tomb Raider: Underworld (Windows, replay) - 8 hours, 6 minutes - 3/5
Probably my favorite of the first Crystal Dynamics TR trilogy even if it was extremely rushed. The inconsistent platforming manages to be worse than before at times but the atmosphere/overall vibe goes a really long way. This is the most TR feeling of the trilogy (I don't count Anniversary as much because even though it's a remake of the original, it's a very condensed version of it) and I absolutely loved the exploration and mostly minimal combat. It felt so good to go through the whole game and not encounter a single bad boss fight.
It's too bad the DLCs never left the 360 because I'd love to have played them. Maybe someday I'll double dip on a 360 copy through backwards compatibility if the DLCs get a decent sale or maybe I'll just youtube them.

Gunstar Heroes (1st play, Genesis Collection via Switch) ~3 hours 7/10
Fun game, it’s the first time I seriously sat down with it and really enjoyed it. Those last levels can be a bit trying though.
Metroid Zero Mission (Replay, GBA) 3:32 7/10)
Great remake, the hand holding really shortens the game. Was a lot shorter than I remembered it being. Especially the additional content. But the game still looks and controls great. Really fun.

Actraiser, SNES (replay, about 3 hours)
I tried to be thorough this replay. Tried. I couldn't get the cumulative populations high enough to level-up to that last HP. At a certain point, the towns just decide to stop reproducing. Even though there's still plenty of space to develop homes and wheat fields. Pity there isn't anyone in contemporary game development that has tried to implement this interesting balance of town simulation and 2-D action.
9/10

foopy64, yeah! Leveled out the land with an earthquake, until there's only Development Level-3 homes left. There's still plenty of open land parcels for development, but nobody wants to build! Arrrgh!

The Expendabros (Win10, 1st play, 1h)
A short 'standalone expansion' to Broforce that was actually released before Broforce and also acts as sort of a demo (but none of the characters are in Broforce and the stages are all original) and an official tie-in to The Expendables 3. Despite the fact that it's usually called an expansion or something to that effect, it apparentely came out before Broforce left early access.
It's actually decently challenging on hard, but if you've played Broforce you're not really missing anything.
