Donkey Kong Country (SNES) FTP 4 hours
It's okay. The difficulty swings very wildly between the too easy (and lazily designed) boss fights and some really tough levels with a long stretch between save points. There isn't a whole lot of consistency to the difficulty either. I had a harder time on World 2 and 4 than any other point in the game. Normally the hardest levels of a platformer are at the end of a game... Equal parts frustration and fun. I hear the sequels are better but I'm not sure I enjoyed this one enough to try them. I ended at 60% completion rating and have no desire to find the rest of the bonus levels. The in-game hint system is neat though. Still I would take a Sonic or Mario game over this any day. Super Mario World this ain't. Perhaps this is one you just had to have been there for when it was new. I do like the newer Retro Studios DKC games.
This is the first game I played on my newly acquired 1-Chip SNES. RGB output upscaled via the XRGB mini. So very crisp and shiny. Also the test game for my first save battery replacement. Worked great.

Personally,I think DKC 3 is the better game.

I'm fairly certain I died the most on Mine Cart Carnage which is like level 8 or something. Almost gave up in frustration there. That run of Snow levels (most of those you mentioned) before you get to save is a PITA. A lot of the challenge in the game comes from rote memorization which isn't uncommon in platformers, but the tools you are given to play with aren't nearly as much fun as say Mario's power-ups or Mega Man's special abilities.

Cleared POSTAL 2: Paradise Lost for Windows in 6 hours on the Hestonworld difficulty. First time playthrough. Rating: 7/10. I think I'm all postalled out now, but if Running With Scissors ever make a new Postal, they should absolutely keep the Postal 2 open-world formula and just continue to improve upon it as it clearly has the potential for true greatness. It's mostly technical problems with the old Unreal 2 engine and the weak shooting that holds the games back if anything.

I was going to claim the whole whole Bit.Trip collection at once, but I still haven't beaten Bit.Trip Core and I'm starting to doubt I ever will. It's easily the hardest one. As for the rest, Runner is the best of the bunch, but Void and Fate are good too. Beat and Flux suffer from forced motion controls and were incredible frustrating to play. Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner - M∀RS (PS4) - First playthrough, Time: 07:39:58 (timer) Game beaten on Normal. A huge improvement on that first one in every way and runs perfect on PS4. The only thing that really bothered me was the awful stilted dialogue, it really took away from my enjoyment of the story. I'll do a second playthrough later to clean up the rest of the trophies. I hope you're happy. I just ordered a copy of this too. Well, I don't get any of the proceedings, but sure. I didn't even know they sold them after the kickstarter. I guess it must've been more successful than they had anticipated. Because I recall that they were initially planning on only doing one pre-order run for the Kickstarter (they ended up doing a second one). Donkey Kong Country (SNES) FTP 4 hours It's okay. I've always found it ramping up in difficulty quite gradually. The exception being the difficulty spike at the beginning of each world when you haven't unlocked Funky Kong or Candy Kong in that world yet. The hardest stage for me has always been the one where you have to collect fuel for a moving platform. FWIW, DKC2 and 3 are pretty different. DKC1 is much more straightforward in comparison.

Even though they don't reinvent the wheel, Donkey Kong Country 2 and 3 are both more tightly designed than the first one - the boss fights are more tactical for example. Though, the second one is is pretty tough overall. DKC3 is easily my favourite in terms of gameplay and atmosphere. Difficulty-wise it's the most approachable and its world feels more cohesive than it did in the previous entries (even more so than DKC2), featuring a pervasive mountains-and-woods-theme, roughly resembling real world northern areas.

Leisure Suit Larry 3: Passionate Patti in Pursuit of the Pulsating Pectorals!
The stroyline is decent. Graphics as far as VGA goes isn't pushing the limits of the hardware, but it is nice for 1989. The audio is also massively improved over the 2nd game which was just incidental music in a few places. Text parser, pretty good. Unfortunately some of the text was hard to read - blue text on a grey background!? You get to play as Patti in one section which is fun; possibly sending a message to critics who said the game series is sexist (which it undoubtedly was at the time). Overall I prefer the first game which is just crude, fun this isn't decent one, but I think it's overhyped.

Distraint: Deluxe Edition (Switch, First Time)
An almost decent side scrolling adventure game with horror elements that are totally unnecessary. My main issue is that the plot does not really work well particularly with the horror elements. It concerns a Mr. Price (forget his first name or if it's even given) who is up for a promotion to partner at the law firm he works at once he seizes three properties. This right off the bat is wonky as this type of grunt work is more fitting of a very low level employee and not really the purview of a law firm anyway. The first and third are actually evictions which is a fairly rigorous legal procedure barring the actions of a shady landlord which isn't the case here. The second is very straightforward eminent domain which would just be handled by the local government directly and handled totally differently than depicted here.
The developer is Finnish, and Finland has much stronger rights on the side of the tenant and doesn't seem to have eminent domain at all. Nothing feels really true to life which ends up detracting from the impact the story is supposed to have. This feeds into how the horror elements end up feeling weak despite being on the graphic side. They're supposed to represent Price's disgust and resentment at what he's doing, but his actions are so contrived that I was pretty much just rolling my eyes at the whole thing.
This game was clearly trying to make a statement but it just doesn't work for the most part. The core of the game is supposed to be about the kindly old lady Price kicks out at the beginning of the game, but everything else feels like padding. A more grounded melodrama about just that thread would have worked much better as every other aspect just takes away from it.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers SNES FTP 1 hour
Decent beat'em up/plat-former hybrid. Catchy music tracks and the civilian sprites are nice. The generic enemies don't really resemble Putties (I don't remember Putties wielding guns or knives either...) and for some reason they decided to only use one sprite for all the characters morphed forms. They modeled it after the Red Ranger and then for the others just recolored the sprite and changed the weapon. Too much work to design a different sprite for the girls I guess. Seeing a burly Pink Ranger beat the living snot out of not-putties with a bow wielded as a bludgeoning tool is hilarious though.
Game is easy enough. Final boss took me a couple of tries but other than that I only died twice. Controls are simplistic with one button for attack, one for jump, and one for a 'bomb' attack in morphed form. There are some slight variations to the characters attacks but the only major difference is that only Pink has a projectile attack. You only have one plane of movement for the most part but there are some jumping sections with a neat wall jump required at parts. There are seven stages overall but the last two are pseudo fighting game style Megazord fights against an enemy. Had fun playing this one. I can see replaying it every now and then.

Riviera: The Promised Land (GBA) - Replay, Time: 20:25:17 (timer)
Finally replayed this very unique JRPG to get the last ending I was missing and unlock the rest of the Extra Contents. Still couldn't manage to get all items, but I'm content with this.

I’ve tried Riviera a couple times but always give up after a couple hours. Battle system feels too slow. Normally I’d be all over a harem style game.

Finished two games yesterday: TMNT (GBA; First Time) - the 2007 Ubisoft one. A surprisingly fun late GBA beat-em' up, with some fun moves (kick and head stomp, specifically). Feels like some common DNA with the Scott Pilgrim game (also from Ubisoft), but I don't have an easy way to compare credits. 7/10 Return of the Obra Dinn (Windows on Linux via Wine; First Time)A very satisfying mystery/adventure/puzzle game, even if I did end up cheesing the system a little bit with enough simultaneous educated guesses to lock some in 9/10, though it's probably one of the least re-playable games I can possibly think of. Maybe in 10 years if I forget everything

Quite fun, too, albeit rather difficult.
