Konami Anniversary Collection Announced (Operation Rainfall)OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MYYYYYYYYYYYY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSHThe 8 arcade games will be Haunted Castle, Typhoon (also known as A-Jax), Nemesis (also known as Gradius), Vulcan Venture (also called Gradius II), Life Force (alternatively called Salamander), Thunder Cross, Scramble, and TwinBee. Not all of the Castlevania or Contra games have been revealed yet, but of the ones that have, the Castlevania set will have Castlevania, Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, Castlevania II: Belmont’s Revenge, and Super Castlevania IV, while the Contra set will have Contra, Super Contra, Super C, and Contra III: The Alien Wars. They better include Contra: Hard Corps; that's practically the best game in the series, and yet it has never seen a single port to any system whatsoever. The only ways to play it are on a Genesis/Mega Drive, or via emulation. Pleeaaaaaaaaaaaaase include it Konami. Please (also they really need to include the original NES Contra, not just the shitty arcade version. Please Konami. Don't fail us)

There was a rumored Castlevania collection leaked just a couple of weeks ago. Cool to see that it's real. I wonder what they'll add to the Castlevania Collection. Haunted Castle is already on the Arcade Collection, and the two other great Castlevania games already have there own collection. I guess the handheld titles are the only other ones that are worth collecting.

I'd be surprised if they didn't add Symphony of the Night to the collection, especially because of the Smash connections.

Well this is rather interesting! Most likely get all three but the Castlevania one is the one I'm most interested in. Of any the ones to appear I feel like Bloodlines, Rondo of Blood (original or PSP remake), Symphony of the Night, maybe one of the PS2 one, a GBA one would most likely appear. Would be nice to see Chronicles or Adventure Rebirth as well. I feel the ones on the DS or N64 and the Lords of Shadow spinoff won't appear.
Not going to get into the Contra games however.
And Holy Cow! Konami is 50 years old!? Just how old is Capcom?

They could potentially right two wrongs and give us Bloodlines and Hard Corps. They also need to include NES Contra and give the option to play the Japanese Castlevania III. Contra 4 would be cool too since it's kind of expensive second-hand. And perhaps they'll even bring over Contra and Castlevania Rebirth.
I'll definitely get the arcade collection, but I'm kind of dissapointed there isn't a general shmup collection, or even collections. There are tons of Konami shumps that need to be brought back in circulation, and tons of arcade games and Gradius games that are hard to come by.

I kind of doubt that more recent (if you can call the GBA/PS2 and later games 'recent') ones are going to be on there. But it could be a cool way to include some of the lesser titles. Double Haunted Castle to the Castlevania Collection, include some of the various versions to pick for the first one, MSX's Vampire Killer, the X68k one, the GB and Kid Dracula games. And Holy Cow! Konami is 50 years old!? Just how old is Capcom? They'll be 40 later this year.

I doubt Rondo of Blood and SotN will be on the collection considering they just released those two on their on collection less than a year ago. Not that I mind, I've played SotN beyond death anyway. Bloodlines would be nice.

Didn't that collection only release on Xbox One and PS4, though?

My main overarching question is if the console games are emulated or ported like Mega Man Legacy Collection. If it's the latter, I think that opens up things a little bit. I also have a feeling that Nintendo would take a dim view on their consoles being emulated on other platforms. I don't think 3D games are totally out of the question if they are being ported. The recent Mega Man X collections did include PS2 ports although at a higher overall price point. Real question is how much effort Konami is willing to put into this.

Ditto for MSX2 Vampire Killer. Famicom's Boku Dracula-kun as an unlockable game.
Contra should offer an arcade mode option. Super Contra and Super C should bundle as one slot. Contra:Shattered Soldier should be included too.

It's a bit dissapointing these won't be "chronologically complete" packs (R.I.P. "The Adventure"). But at least it seems they've made their homework when it comes to fan-favorites.
My guess is Bloodlines and Chronicles will be included in the CV collection. And even though Rondo is already bundled elesewhere, it just belongs on an "essential" Classicvania compilation. While Dracula X would be neat, as it's a pretty good game in its own right, just not a proper substitute for Rondo, I'd rather have Rebirth as it's completely original (despite being labled as a remake) and the last linear game in the series.
Save Symphony for another Castleroid-themed pack alongside Aria and the DS games.
As for the Contra collection: Hard Corps has to be on there, no doubt about that. The first Game Boy game also seems likely, as Belmont's Revenge (another GB game) is included in the CV Collection. Including Rebirth would make sense stylistically with aesthetics close to Alien Wars and due to it having a relatively moderate filesize. Leaving us with Shattered Soldier, 4 or maybe even Uprising (?) as valid candidates for the last entry. While I've never played them, I'd prefer Uprising or Shattered Soldier. 4 is probably a good choice, too, but it relies heavily on the vertical dual screen set up and I'm not sure how well that translates to horizontal widescreen formats.

And Holy Cow! Konami is 50 years old!? Just how old is Capcom? I thought Capcom's first game was Vulgus in 1984. Or at least that's what they report their first game was. Unless it's like Nintendo where Donkey Kong is the oldest thing they want to talk about.

From the "Arcade" collection, I think Typhoon/Ajax and Thunder Cross are first-time console releases?
But Life Force, aren't there technically two versions of it? Western version of Salamander as well as a re-release in Japan? What was the difference again, was it that Salamander had instant-effect power-ups while JP LF had the Gradius power-up system used in the NES port?

This collection is "powered by Arcade Archives" so we are getting a bundle of these versions. It's the original Salamander, as screenshots are shown with the red flame stage not the blue flames of Life Force JP/rerelease. www.konami.com/games/50th/ac/arcade/us/en/
