Okay, so sometimes I see a game's title, and it makes me wonder.
Like for example:
"Fantasy Zone 2: The Tears of Opa-Opa." Umm... why is Opa-Opa crying? I know who Opa-Opa IS but why is it crying?
"Guilty Gear" What exactly is this "gear" guilty of?
"King's Field" Ummm... none of the games take place in fields. At least not majorly. So what exactly is the eponymous field?
"Act Fancer" ... one of my friends asked, how exactly does once "fance"? (And no, it being a mispelling of "fencer" wouldn't make sense in context either)
There's more, like the amount of times "Final" is in the title of a game that has sequels (Final Fantasy, Final Fight, etc) and probably the only "Final" game that actually was, was R-Type Final. But I'm sticking to the ones I actually wonder about and want an explanation for rather than just weird curiosities. WHY IS OPA OPA CRYING?

Super Mario Bros.
Luigi's last name is not Mario, so why is it "Mario Bros."?

FZ2's subtitle does make sense if you play and beat the game, but it is kind of an odd story for a cutesy shooter. Actually it's a good pick for your other thread.
King's Field - Maybe it's like "field of expertise"? Never played it though and some english JP-made games' titles seem to be chosen based more on how they sound rather than what they mean.

Can ya go ahead and explain FZ2's subtitle to me? I actually never played a Fantasy Zone game and I don't know if I'd have the skill/time/patience to beat it. Put it in a spoiler mark.
All I know about Fantasy Zone is the ship is called Opa-Opa.

It's a great game, you should play it! Otherwise it's on wikipedia.

Just a few more titles that make me wonder.
"Last Battle" (yes I know this was a Fist of the North Star game in Japan) -- Like... the last battle that will ever take place or what?
"Final Zone" -- same deal. Like, were there zones before this and now they reached the last one? Did they take the last level of a Sonic game and make a full game around it?
What the heck IS an "Exed Exes?" I beat the game (quater-feeding in order to unlock a bonus on the Capcom Classics Collection) and I still don't know.
Bio-Hazard Battle's title makes sense... in English. The Japanese title is "Crying." I kinda wonder if that mislead anyone back in the day, like if they thought it was a visual novel and brought it home only to find its a shmup (and a damn fine one).

Capcom has decided to ditch the original localized title of Exed Exes (Savage Bees), despite that it made for sense.
Continuity? I guess like how they have retconned the Commando series titles to now call them "Wolf of the Battlefield" (a translation of the Japanese franchise title). Like even when the Genesis version of Mercs was re-released on Wii VC, they listed it under a new title.

That game is already somewhat unsettling. It makes me nervous like Ecco the Dolphin does. The name crying makes it even more disturbing. I always play the Japanese version because of that. I want to know more about why they chose that name. Like, who’s crying? The mutant ship thingies? Are they being tortured or something? Such a bizarre mystery. On topic, X-Multiply is a bizarre name for a bizarre game. It sounds like a pinball table or something, but it’s a biological-based shooter with creepy human eyes on the title screen for inexplicable reasons. Alien crush, devils crush and jaki crush sound like dating sims or tokimeki memorial levels. They’re awesome pinball games, though. The king daddy of wtf names for a game is Hot Dog Storm. When I first heard of this game I laughed hysterically about it for weeks. It’s a fairly competent vertical shooter that reminds me of gekkerindan, and has nothing to do with hot dogs from what I can tell. Though the title screen and leaderboard screen are adorned with them. The marquee is delicious, too.

I do remember needing to credit feed about 10 credits on the final boss alone. Which I thought is insane, though I don't know just how crazy arcade shmups get with final bosses. It wouldn't really surprise me that they make a final boss that much of a bullet-sponge on purpose.

I think the marquee is great because it looks like absolute shit. And yeah, that last boss is totally designed to get another $10 out of you before you walk away. I feel like being able to credit spam your way through a game without developing skill detracts from the fun and overall quality of a game, but the Skinner box manipulation and variable rewards system it sets up generates cash, which makes operators happy.

Block Hole (Quarth) actually makes sense: it is a black hole which absorbs blocks. And I understand it, "undokai" is just an athletics festival in Japanese.
