So apparently Eugene Jarvis, of Robotron 2084 and Smash TV, made a new twinstick shooter in 2017, and it's been getting excellent reviews? www.gamespot.com/reviews/nex-machina-review/1900-6416704/This flew under my radar completely. I guess the developer's subsequent decision to move away from arcade-style games is understandable in that regard. Has anyone here played it? (Or even heard about it?)

Haven't played it, but I've read about it. Developer Housmarque has an excellent reputation and the two games I've played by them, The Reap (Viewpoint homage from the late nineties) and Outland (open-world platformer with Silhoutte/Tron aesthetics and Ikaruga mechanics), are both really good indeed.

Yes, it is incredibly good. Probably one of the best twin-stick shooters out there, between this and Assault Android Cactus from a few years ago, it's a great time for the subgenre. Fast action, incredible depth with tons of hidden stuff, great music, cool "voxel" visual style. Eugene Jarvis didn't really "make it" as it's really a Housemarque thing, but he did act as a consultant on it.
