Good news, everyone! When I finished playing Pathologic a couple years ago, I went on a mad search for articles on this esoteric game. One of those articles was/is on hg101, which even mentions RPS' notorious three-part feature. While still sort of niche, the content that Ice-Pick Lodge's games provoke is often quite passionate. After 5 years of development, Pathologic 2 is being released on May 23rd. A remake of the original, yet not quite, as you cannot step into the same river twice. I'm a fan who wishes this game spikes interest. Read hg101's article, if you haven't already. While not for everyone, I believe there are quite a number of people who would enjoy this kind of game and don't know it exists. Check out the latest teaser:

I have a soft spot for the original. I believe it was my first exposure to the Plague Doctor, which seems to have had a resurgence recently in pop culture.
The atmosphere of the game was fantastic, and it had some really interesting ideas, but I'm firmly in the camp that thought the ending was a cop-out.
I have The Void kicking around somewhere, but never got to playing it.

Discussing the ending would bring up spoilers that I'd rather avoid completely, but I'll just say that that was my initial gut reaction. With time, however, it grew on me, and provided some interesting commentary; although I enjoy a lot the rest of the narrative. In any case, I'm curious to see how it's going to be approached this time. I have The Void kicking around somewhere, but never got to playing it. The Void is another favourite among Pathologic fans, and I definitely recommend it. An unforgiving game, like practically most of IPL's games, but truly one like no other.

I was definitely intrigued by the HG101 article, but of course I never got around to playing it.
Is Pathologic Classic HD worth playing at all? The article seemed to indicate that the original rough translation gave it a lot of charm.

Here's the thing: if you're interested in Pathologic 2, the remake, and don't have time and/or energy to play both Classic HD and Pathologic 2, then stick to Pathologic 2. Otherwise, if you're really intrigued, maybe try watching a few videos of a playthrough, and decide if you want to give it a go yourself. Personally, I think Keith Ballard and Marshall Dyer did pretty good playthroughs. As for the rough, original translation: it's funny reading a few bits here and there, but for a full playthrough it's just going to be too frustrating -- especially if it's the first time. Don't torture yourself.

Another trailer, possibly the last one, more aimed at potential buyers shedding some light on gameplay mechanics:
7 days remain...

Pathologic is my friend's favorite game so I finally started it several days ago. He was pretty adamant I play the original translation, but I went with Classic HD for convenience. I'm completely hooked and can't stop playing it. Unfortunately there's no way I could run Pathologic 2 on my computer but I will have to play it someday. I'm still only on my first route of the game though so 2 is in my distant future right now anyway.
It turned out I was already familiar with Ice-Pick Lodge without knowing it, having played The Void for a while before dropping it for no real reason. I'll get back to that at some point.

This is very interesting. I wish someone chimed in telling us which settings could be the best compromise regarding atmosphere vs playability. Also, it's a shame that, very often, reviews don't get updated after the initial release.

The game is actually not that hard. It is initially shocking for new players, true, but on a second playthrough --or even before that-- it is possible to have the mechanics figured out to your advantage if you pay attention.
Play the easiest mode, if you like. No shame in wanting to focus on the story. You can change it anytime you want, anyway. I don't know where the middle ground lies, though. You'll have to experiment a bit.
P.S. Don't take the deal!
