As part of their 40th Anniversary, Success is developing Cotton Reboot based on the X68000 version of the original game. The game will include an Arrange Mode for current platforms in mind while including the original version of the game. Beep is releasing the game as a new publisher. The store is known for selling classic Japanese PC gaming goods. gematsu.com/2019/05/shoot-em-up-cotton-reboot-announced-for-ps4-switch-and-pc

Amazing! Unfortunately, it can’t emulate the dancing keyboard.

I had hoped that Cotton's inclusion in Umihara Kawase Fresh! might mean she would get her own game again. I don't know if UKF has anything to do with this reboot, but I'm very happy to hear a new Cotton game is coming.

Did anyone else read they they’re republishing a floppy disk version for the x68000? Mine’s a compact so I probably can’t play it (requires 3.5” disks) but I figured it was worth emphasizing here.

This is pretty awesome. Beep is an absolutely incredible shop, so I'm all too happy to support them in an endeavor like this -- and the fact that it's Cotton makes it even better.
I just wish it weren't the X68k version, as that version's music is pretty... weak. Hopefully the Arrange Mode includes an arranged OST.

Ah, I haven't heard that. I imagine it would be, though. I'll have to check it out.

The reason why the X68000 is the version that's not only getting re-released for the platform but also for other platforms as well is due to being made by basically the same team as the original Arcade version. That and the extras that are not found in other versions of the game. It would be damn awesome if they somehow manage to integrate the JP voiceovers from the PC Engine version into the digital re-releases. As for what i'm expecting now from BEEP, well...can we get an actual, officially licensed physical release of Cho Ren Sha 68K on...well the X68K? That game is just too awesome and if it somehow manages to be ported into other platforms, then its a win/win situation for all of us

I have the Sega system 16 PCB, and it’s nearly identical to the X 68K version. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was developed on an X68K. EDIT: it’s tough to predict what the mainstream public’s reaction to ChoRenSha would be, the obvious reason being that the background never changes. I know this is a totally elitist and narcissistic thing to say, but I don’t think the average switch owner could wrap their head around the concept that it’s a doujin game from the 90’s. I can see the 23 year old hipsters giving it a 3/10 on their blogs.

I am completely unfamiliar with ChoRenSha, but based on what you're saying here, I would be completely unsurprised to see Beep involved with republishing it. Sounds 100% in their wheelhouse.
I really can't rave about Beep enough. I've been there far too many times since my return to Japan, and both bought and sold numerous things there. Their selection of doujin goods is outstanding, and their prices on non-doujin old-school PC games are... sometimes a bit high, but often entirely reasonable. And they do a nice job of documenting in great detail the condition of their games, even going so far as to attempt to clean moldy disks themselves before putting them on their shelves -- and marking them, very clearly, as "moldy" if they're not successful. (Which of course comes with a huge discount in the price, too!)
Also, their buy-back prices are the best for obscure titles. And they're happy to buy doujin games and unknown items. I went in there last weekend with two junky MSX controllers and a cartridge of "Venture" for some obscure Chinese console called the "Follow Me," and they told me they couldn't put a price on the Follow Me cartridge since they'd never heard of it before and could barely find any information about it online, but they were very interested in buying the game due to its obscurity, so they offered me a batch price of 3500 yen for all three items. Which was beyond reasonable.
...So yeah. Even if you only have the slightest interest in Cotton, I highly recommend buying this game when it releases, just to support Beep in their endeavors. They're really doing everything they can to keep the obscurest pockets of retro gaming alive.

Hmm what is the realistic chances of seeing Exact's 68k titles? The company is now with Sony but I doubt they have the rights to anything pre-Playstation. EDIT: it’s tough to predict what the mainstream public’s reaction to ChoRenSha would be, the obvious reason being that the background never changes. I can see the 23 year old hipsters giving it a 3/10 on their blogs. Give the audience some credit. There's a ton of shmup and there are doujin/Japanese indie on Switch and PS4. ChoRenSha is a well known one too.

What about Xain\Sein\Zain Soft's games? DIOS in particular. Played through two different versions and enjoyed both.
