Persona 3 getting a remake is still kind of baffling to me. The original still holds up well, and is easily available. Errr, not really? Unless you mean piracy and emulation, which a lot of people don't want to bother with and of course doesn't give any money to Sega. The original game is almost eighteen years old now and one of Atlus' biggest hits (possibly to the point that it saved the company), so I think it makes a lot of sense for them to remake it. I'm miffed though that it *still* won't be the definitive version of P3 with all content features for some reason...

Really looking forward to EDF6. Always had a soft spot for the series. It's been 18 months since the Japanese release so I was worried it wasnt out and worried there might be a 12 month wait for the PC release after the console one.

It's also not really a candidate for a game needing a remake because the main reason for doing that is taking advantage of new graphical techniques, and P3 wasn't a game that really needed that much at all. Like a lot of Japanese made RPGs, it was pretty base line graphics wise and made up for it via character art and UI design. A remaster I could see being welcome, freshen up the old art to fit modern resolutions better and such, but a full remake? This smells like solely a money grab, especially since it's not a Yakuza/Like A Dragon situation where old games had important context for later entries to justify a remake (plus slightly modifying a few things to better plug in with the prequel). Persona games are basically stand alone besides the fighting spinoffs. I'm not even that cynical about the boom of remakes and remasters we've been seeing but P3 as a full remake feels like a significant waste of resources that could be used on a new project.

It did, but that's the PSP version which is hardly the best version of the game either. Having the female MC option is nice though and it's a shame Atlus never did that again for later Personas. Even the remake won't include that option.

I'd rather see a remaster with the PSP port content and features (ie direct character control) rather than a full remake. Makes me wonder if they don't have much in the way of ideas for a new entry right now. Sega doesn't seem to be doing too hot these days outside Like A Dragon and Persona, so while whatever is in the pipe line is being handled, which usually takes Persona Team a long time, they need some sort of project to release and this is probably the best they could do in time crunch.
All the non-Persona Atlus output always seems to do significantly worse commercial wise.
