That being said... I am currently finishing a write up for this site about fighters that predate SFII. I goes without saying that the infamous Pit-Fighter is among them. My original writing for it was very brief. More or less mentioning that it was a bad game and what the premise of it is. I figured that so many people have played it that there is no point to saying anything else. If I were to joke about it I could only say how horrible it was, "Cranky Gamers" style, if you will. So given it's recognizability, and that everybody acknowledges how horrible it is, and that everything has been said about it that could possibly be said, why beat that figurative dead horse? So my question: Do HG101 forum posters believe it would be tiring so see yet another tirade about how horrible this game is? If you all would like to see a definitive HG101 write up on this game, I already have a idea that I could approach it with that I have not exactly seen everywhere. However, I still believe it is worth asking because I am sick to death of the game as a go to bad game reference myself, and have no interest in seeing the same comments that are everywhere else credited to myself, or even at all. If you would like to see this respond within the next day or so, because I am submitting it before very long. ... WHAT THE %$^% !?!?!?!?!?!?! !!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!? Is this real?!

I hope to some deity that it's bogus. Out of all games that exist, we don't need another Pit Fighter.

I'd like a definitive write up to why the game is jus so damn bad..for the younglings. I mean the game had it's.....merits at the time probably.
Also that article is almost surely fake.

Yeah, as bad as the game is now, its digitized graphics did look cool for the time...when not animating, at least. I guess it's seen like an older version of Killer Instinct, which, while largely panned by people nowadays, was a big deal back when it first came out.
Also, it wasn't any worse than a lot of the fighters pre-SF2; as a matter of fact, I remember people actually used to crowd around the thing when it was in my local arcade, at least for a short while, and it did get some playtime by folks probably because of the "eyecandy."
Obviously, the game has flaws. First of all, would you even call it a fighter? Or is it a beat 'em up? As I recall, you had to beat henchmen along with the main enemy at least in some levels.
Either way, a write up/obituary would be great to read, whether it's making fun or doing a real analysis of the thing.

That wiki entry is the worst written thing I've read in a while...

I hope to some deity that it's bogus. Out of all games that exist, we don't need another Pit Fighter. But we almost got one. There was originally going to be a Pit Fighter 2 for the Genesis/MD. Common sense ultimately prevailed, however.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing a write up about what's good about the game. I've seen the game in action before, both in console and arcade, but I never played it because I was so disgusted by it.

Go ahead and write about it. Although nearly everyone on here will know about it, you also must be aware that casual or new gamers won't know about it.
Plus, a good trashing is normally fun to read.

I has a idea or two that had never been in any other fighter, but they do not save it. I mention those innovations in the write up. What is good about it? Nothing. It is kind of like the E.T. for Atari 2600 of fighters. It is a painful experience to play. You would have a better time doing nothing than playing it. There are several games like that, but this is no different from the rest.

I would have thought Pit Fighter was a moderate success unlike ET which is one of the reasons Atari ceased.

Pit Fighter did get a sequel for the Genesis. They called it Mortal Kombat.

There is Guardians of the 'Hood, which is the closest thing to a Pit Fighter sequel that we'll (hopefully) ever have and was (thankfully) never ported to any home system.
