We all know of the Ys series (the 3d being a fan favorite) and Guilty Gear (Isuka being my favorite soundtrack wise) But what other games out there rock our socks of? (And no, Guitar Hero doesn't count). Well, I've seldom played a game as mental as Contra: Shattered Solider. Not only is the gameplay hard as nails, the soundtrack's almost harder! Just look at the intro! If that doesn't get your adrenalin pumping, nothing will. Another favorite of mine is the Quake 2 soundtrack. Being red-book audio, let's just say that I wore out my cd without playing the game much. Here's a random dude covering the level 1 bgm. And this! is how you license a song! (We need an article on this game btw). So, what other games out there totally rock?

... Guitar Hero? ;D *murdered*
Seriously, I'd have to say several games in the King of Fighters series have kick-awesome rock tracks, but I'd especially like to highlight KoFXI, which in my humble opinion, has the best soundtrack of the entire series. As far as rock goes, try the classic Fatal Fury team (Terry, Kim, Duck), the Legends (Kyo, Iori, Shingo), the Ikari team (Ralf, Clark, Leona Whip) and my favorite, the NESTS team (K', Maxima, Kula), the last of which just explodes the speakers with kickassness.
... okay, fine, so it's semi-techno as well, but tell me it doesn't get you into battle mode.

"Bloody", the theme of the New Faces Team from KOF '97, is probably the rockin'-est song in the KOF series if you ask me. Especially the arrange version.

Yeah, I know (As stated in the original post), but I'm fishing for some more obscure examples.
Shin megami Tensei: Nocturne tends to rock it out, but sometimes I wish the sound quality was better. The in game audio feels a bit... dry.

F-Zero X. Listen to the guitar arranged album. You'll know what I'm talking about.

I'd say most of the battle themes in Digital Devil Saga 2 would fit here, also...

F-zero GX struck me more as techno than rock. X however is spot on for this topic.
Beyond that I cant quite recant many others. Though a shooter called Eliminate Down did have a very heavy soundtrack, it wasn't exactly rock.
