What's the best PSP emulator? Much like PCSX2, you'll need a fairly decent machine to run it, but it's the ideal way to play PSP games these days.

It's honestly not even that demanding. My shitty old rig had problems with PCSX2, Dolphin and Desmume, but so far no game in PPSSPP had serious performance issues.

My 2009 laptop was also able to run it most of the time, but there were times when it felt like it was struggling.

I'm starting to wonder if we should have a new thread compiled, since the OP is getting on in years, and we've had a lot of suggestions for newer, better emulators. On that note, I just tried Medafen's newly updated Saturn support, and it's honestly pretty terrific. I've had a way better track record than SSF or Yabause, I'm shocked. The only real drawback so far is that it can't play PAL games yet, so hopefully that's not a dealkiller. It runs so much other stuff just about perfectly, too. I definitely wouldn't use anything else for PS1 emulation, that's for sure. You can grab the emulator here. For a GUI, I've been using MedGui Reborn.

I know I'd appreciate a fully-updated list of recommended emulators.

This site should hopefully be of help, but you probably shouldn't let their opinion of what works best overtake what you're comfortable with, if it seems to work well enough for you(except, dump ZSNES. 9X has been updated within the last decade, and works better, for low end PCs, these days): emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Main_PageAs for Yabause, I find it works much better with Bin/Cue Darkwater rips, than the MDS/MDF format. I don't know how much higher that raises it's compatibility rate though, but one example is that MDS/MDF Nights won't even run(black screen with a Sonic ring sound, and that's it), while the Darkwater rip is perfectly compatible with it.

I'm starting to wonder if we should have a new thread compiled, since the OP is getting on in years, and we've had a lot of suggestions for newer, better emulators. Good idea, we should. We could consider the recommendations here that aren't, say, more than 2 years old, and include links like the one just posted, plus general advice and tips, maybe...? Regarding PPSSPP, one problem I've had with it is the font. The default font is too large for some games, e.g. Jeanne d'Arc. If you have a PSP you can rip its font or, of course, you can look it up online.
