www.hardcoregaming101.net/legendaryaxe/legendaryaxe.htmOne of the "big" titles in the early days of the TG-16. The first one has a bunch of frustrating spots but it's still lot of a fun. The second one has a really strange/awful graphical style and plays nothing like the original, but also isn't too bad.

This kind of jumped out at me in the Legendary Axe 2 section: "They also tossed away the unique charging system that made its predecessor so unique and designed a game that didn't even look remotely like its predecessor."
The words "unique" and "Predecessor" are both used twice there, and it's kind of awkward.

The Astyanax is not necessarily a ripoff of Legendary Axe. Tokuhiro Takemori is the producer, the director, and one of the game designers on the original arcade version of The Astyanax. He is also one of the game designers on Legendary Axe.

The arcade The Lord of King is tons of fun. It's kinda mashy and the charge attack is terrible, but that's really it.
Ankoku Densetsu still "feels" quite a bit like Makyou and I get the impression they were developed by much of the same staff. Or, whoever they hired was really good about replicating style. You can get an axe anyway, so whatever.
I think Ankoku took a page from The Lord of King with that final stage... the "secret" stage 6 in TLoK is hard Alien all the way.

I want to like Legendary Axe II because the atmosphere they were attempting was cool but the graphics and levels really are so dark and dull. I just get bored with it.
