hg101.classicgaming.gamespy.com/earthwormjim/earthwormjim.htmI think I've been working on this way too long - easily a month, for such a small series. Still, it goes HUGELY into depth on all of the levels for the two 16-bit games (and mostly kinda skims over the others, because they're really not all that interesting.) I know over the weeks, there's something I forgot to add or some bit that won't make sense. I guess those'll be fixed eventually!

Very nice detail in the comparisons. Even the best existing EWJ reviews only offer cursory details of the different versions. I never knew the Genesis EWJ might actually be worth having.

I always thought the battles against Bob the Goldfish were awesome.

Great article! I never noticed that there were so many graphical variations between the various releases. Also, you should probably mention that the EWJ2 level where you have to save the puppies is probably a tribute to the old classic Game & Watch title, Fire (also the correct song title is "Funiculì Funiculà").

God, I love EWJ and its sequel. I'm glad I didn't play any of the games afterwards, but when it comes to outright insanity, I can't think of anything awesomer than Shiny's brainchild. Kudos, Kurt. Side note: When I think of the word "obnoxious," I always hear the sound effect that plays when you choose the wrong answer in the quiz game. That makes it all the more hilarious to think of.

Great article for a great game.I Played Earthworm Jim for ages ( actually I'm a fan of Dave Perry's work, from that Aladdin platform to MDK ) even though I never noticed all those differences between the various versions. The sequel was a bit off but still playable while I never played the subsequent games...and looks like I did the right thing.

Favourite line from the cartoon.
"Superheroes and evil twins go together like peanut butter and... er... evil peanut butter!"

In the second page, the End of Level Cows comparision pics. I swear that I've seen that same two cows motiff on the cover of a music album. Another thing, that CG pic of Jim watching TV is strangely similar to the one found in Gex. Both that have the same camera angle and both are looking back at the camera. On the third page: "Even if you have a high tolerange for N64 era platformers, Earthworm Jim 3D is on the lower end of mediocre. It apparently suffered from an overly long development cycle, but it's still clear that it was rush - the game advertised the appearance of Evil the Cat, who doesn't show up at all. "Rushed? Or was that intentional?

I remember when this game came out when I was younger and being SO IMPOSSIBLY FRUSTRATED during Down the Tubes. I never got passed that stage. I think it's about time I try it again 14 years later...
Also for a quick add, I've heard that Tommy Tallarico remixed Earthworm Jim music in Shiny's Wild 9

I'm so very glad they're reviving this franchise, with the creator Doug TenNapel. That atrocious looking PSP title was going to further bastardise the series into oblivion, thank God it got canned and Doug got back into making the series again, maybe they'll get it right now!
A movie, TV series and game are all currently in the works!

Ah, Great article so far. For some reason, I had never heard of Menace 2 the Galaxy, but I guess it's for the better.
Also, at the end, when you mentioned Tommy being a host on a G4 show briefly, you're referring to the American run of Judgment Day. In Canada, Tommy is still a co-host on 'Reviews on the Run' although, he rarely makes an appearance, as he's been busy with VGL. Come to think of it, Reviews on the run is the only show that is worth watching on G4. I guess the American G4 is too busy re-running episodes of cops to air the show over there.

Hard to believe that Tommy Tallarico, of all people, did the music for this game.
I first heard of this guy when Comcast merged G4 and TechTV back in 2004. I also remembered all those people bad-mouthing him left, right, and center, calling him a Nintendo-hater, and that he was the biggest asshole on G4, and that Victor Lucas was miles cooler than him.
Good times, good times.
