www.hardcoregaming101.net/startropics/startropics.htmAlright, I'm working on formatting a submitted article for Startropics. However, I'm trying to get some good pictures without having to play both games all the way through. Anyone have some save states or anything, or know a good picture archive?

Sweet! The videos were exactly what I was looking for. I wanted some pics of the later areas of the game (the spaceship and stuff) but couldn't find them.
I found your NESticle save states at Zophar - how did you get those working? I remember NESticle had problems with the game all those years ago, and when I tried reloading them, it was all garbled. Maybe I needed a hacked ROM?
I still have my Startropics manual - unfortunately my bastard cat decided to take a leak on it and now it smells like piss. But I can't throw it out, because I still want that to keep that letter....
Regardless, thanks!!

ST worked on nesticle, but the last level was screwed up. I think you needed to check an option on nesticle to make it work. I don't really remember though, I made that save back then when Nesticle was all the rage and I was new to emulation. As for needing a hacked rom, probably, I got all my games from websites back then (ah the good old days of www rom searches:P) and they were all mostly bad dumps and hacked roms.
Manual and piss? thats bad... I have an extra manual if you want it, no extra letter though. Actually I have 2 extra Star Tropics games... I wonder what for.

*thumbs up* StarTropics is a great little duo of games. A couple years ago I had my "Summer of StarTropics" in which I played through both back to back (for the first time for both of them). It really matched so well with the mood of the summer, vacationing at my mom's house and the nice sunny warm weather. Of course, I was far from the tropics, but it still was a nice fit. :)

I popped in my old Startropics carts when trying to record the music. I never beat the first one (got up the alien ship and couldn't get past it). I'm not sure about the second one? My last save was on C-Island which must have been pretty far.
But then I reset the game and couldn't get it working again, so I had to settle with an NSF rip...

The Star Tropics series is cool, the concept is nice... but the control play is terrible, especially on the sequel.

I didn't realize games weren't completed before doing an article.
The magic is spoiled.

Oh, I didn't write the Startropics article. Just grabbing pics.
Admittedly though, a lot of the games on here (the RPGs mostly) I haven't beaten, just because it would take massive amounts of time. If I did I'd never get anything done around here.

I guess you are in for an even bigger disappointment after I tell you that print and online magazines don't complete most of their games when they review them either. It's just impossible to beat all games with just 10 people on your staff.

Hehe. Aw, I was just kidding around. HG101 will always be magical! Seriously, your articles are so in depth and overflowing with media. Magazines are on a different playing field, and it's not that surprising they don't complete most of their games before review. I imagine they finish one or two big ones and skim the small stuff. In fact, I seem to rememmber a site getting into trouble for not playing their games AT ALL. They pieced together reviews from other sources and got away with it for years... Am I making this up? I could swear something like that happened....

Really great article, but the link to the Zany VG Quotes sends you to the Startropics: C Island link instead.
Other than that, awesome

Nice article. I haven't played neither of these games much in the past (thanks to Capcom), but now I want to give them a new try (I don't mind 8-bit graphics at all).
Speaking of Startropics: Did Kellogg's advertise them on their cereal packages elsewhere than just in Finland and Sweden? Just curious.
