Not that I know. Could be an inside joke though.

Searching the goblins would give comments about how they must've been in a poker game. Was this a reference to anything or just randomness? IIRC it's just a joke. It would say something like "This goblin didn't have any money on him. He must have had a bad night at poker", or vice versa.

If you can, do the Conquests games next. Conquests of Camelot kind of blows, but Conquests of the Longbow is right up there with QFG in terms of multiple solutions, and a great world.

I actually found a reasonably priced copy of Conquests of the Longbow, although since none of my computers have a disk drive (much less a 5.25 one that this one apparently comes on), I may have well just've pirated it. But I'd never played it nor even seen it in stores during my initial run of Sierra games ten years back, so it'll be a fun new experience for me.
I rather remember liking Camelot, if not as much as other Sierra games, despite some particularly ludicrous death scenes.

The Conquests games are actually now considered freeware, so you don't really need to buy them...you can download them (or at least Longbow) from the author's homepage. Unfortunately, I can't remember where the author's homepage is...

I just got both my copies of Conquest of the Longbow and Conquest of Camelot in the mail, from separate people. The Conquest of Camelot was awesome, because the guy not included the hint book, but also all of his notes when he first played the game, which were all yellowed with age. He even included like six disks with save games, although they're all 5.25 so I can't use them. The box was so bulging it was even tearing a little. It's like I happened upon to some old ancient treasure and it only cost $10!
Longbow seems to be rarer and more expensive, but I also found a random one for $10 so I snagged that too. I think I prefer the slimmer cases used in the earlier games, even though it's hard to get everything to fit sometimes.

Has anybody heard of or played Heroine's Quest? I've only just started but it looks and plays like a spiritual successor to this series, except of course with a lady protagonist. It'd be interesting to hear some comparisons between the two.

Heroine's Quest (and Quest for Infamy) are both on my "to play" list. They'll probably have separate articles rather than being lumped in with the Quest for Glory article...but since both are directly inspired by the series there will definitely be comparisons.
