Yeah not even I can tolerate appreciation of Shaq-Fu. Beautiful game visually due to the "rotoscope" animation (from Delphine Studios no less) and it has some nice backgrounds. Goes for a pretty serious atmosphere given the nature of the game, you can tell it clearly had nothing to do with Shaquille O'Neil until later in production. The controls are a travesty though. Only Mephis, Sett-Ra himself and maybe two other characters are actually usable in any context. Plus the SNES version got shafted with the character roster, so you couldn't even enjoy the games asthetic qualities to their maximum unless you wanted to miss out on even more of the (albeit lacking) gameplay.

I played this game once as a kid, actually, as a rental from a now defunct video store. I remember some general information about it - the different basketballs, the hoops and slam dunks, the people being captured and all - but it's kind of a blur to me now. From what I remember, I didn't think it was bad, and it was certainly an interesting change of pace from the usual SNES platformer fare. The article did jog my memory of the game a little bit, especially in regards to the map screens and levels, but I'd have to play it again to get some more information out of it. Considering how the only copy I've ever seen of it was at that video store, I probably won't get to (and I don't emulate).
Come to think of it, that store had a lot of interesting games to rent there. Maybe I'll have to write an article or something on a few of them...

Soccer Kid was a 3DO game,I think.
Soccer Kid probably inspired other games like Marko and Kid Kleets.
Very unique type of platform game.
Seriously though,Michael Jordan?!?!?

I typically don't like resurrecting a thread this old... but... I was futzing around on MobyGames and found out that this game was actually designed by Amy Hennig...
For those of you who don't know, Amy Hennig has worked on some of the greatest games ever made... shortly after MJ, she worked with Crystal Dynamics for a stint, working under Dennis Dyack on Blood Omen before directing Soul Reaver and its followups. Then she jumped in with Naughty Dog in time to work on Jak 3 and then went on to helm a few games you may have heard of... called Uncharted.
So yeah, that might explain why this game is so inexplicably awesome.
