LSL7 is the best one! Maybe you're thinking of one of the post Al Lowe games like Magna Cum Laude and Box Office Bust? Because those are...not of high quality.

A little note on the early AGI games: The Hercules graphics card versions differed a bit from the EGA/CGA versions. The Hercules versions didn`t have a command prompt, but would interrupt gameplay on input and show a text-box "window" in the lower part of the screen. This made those quick-type events (e.g. a monster runs up to you and you would have to type "kill monster" very quickly) a lot easier for me as a child. Though I honestly don`t remember if LSL1 had one of those, KQ1 at least did. Also, when LSL1 came out, there was a rumour going around, that if you would achieve full points with a pirated copy a virus would destroy all the files on your harddisk. This rumour was pretty widespread back then, but I haven`t found much on it on the internet. Except this: www.sierragamers.com/aspx/m/641325 there`s a link to a magazine scan mentioning a virus at least.

Right, I was hoping it didn't get lumped in with Magna Cum Laude and Box Office Bust. It does raise a question if they bought the rights to the first bunch and assuming LSL 7 was included could they just pass on the new ones? Because weren't they made after Sierra became...Vivendi?

Well, there it is, standalone for 5.99. Wonder if they have it run natively in Windows. I remember running into all kinds of issues playing it in WinXP about ten years ago.

Looks like they added the SVGA of 6 too after much clamoring for it. So now LSL on GOG is complete! Unless you really were clamoring for those party games which in case you're out of luck.

Has anyone had any problems with this not running. I'm playing it on an XP and after the sierra logo it goes to black sticks there for a minute and then kicks me to Desktop. No messages or anything. Running it in 256 colors makes it say Direct3D isn't initialized, but I'm pretty sure it is.

If possible, try a different "graphic mode", like OpenGL or DirectDraw.

So the new Kickstartered Leisure Suit Larry remake came out recently. Anyone have any thoughts on it?
Personally I found that the new graphics, while nice enuff in screen shots, just aren't animated good enough. Animations often consist of just 2 frames, and the animation/designs for everyone other than Larry and the girls just aren't that good. While the vga version redesigned the designs to amazing fact and gave the game a great makeover, this one just plays it safe. Most of the designs are either near-identical to the original's (except looking worse) or bland and not that interesting (the Kickstarter rewards that put donators in the game are fantastic ideas for prizes and must be amazing for the donators to see, but the unfortunate result is much much blander designs). The backgrounds and close-ups of the girls are gorgeous though, so why the quality of animation is so much worse is a mystery to me.
The new soundtrack is by the composer of fucking Journey of all things, which is quite the get, and when the music plays, it's very nice. The transformation in the intro from the 8 bit original of the main theme to the new realistic version is a great pleasure to hear. Problem is, for atmosphere's sake, most of the music is either muffled up and playing quietly under the sounds of talking/streets/etc, or barely used.
And the gameplay I found too identical to the previous versions. There was only 1 new girl in the whole game, and barely any new puzzles (some of which make no sense at all, even for an adventure game). It was just like playing the VGA version, but without the ability to perma-die. Humour's hit and miss too, but the voice acting is pretty great, even if the narrator could do with talking a bit faster.
Overall, I found it enjoyable, especially for nostalgia's sake, but I'd say its a pretty damn dissapointing remake. What are other people's thoughts? Will there be a addition to the LSL article about it?

The article will be updated when I get to spend some more time with it. As it stands, I only really explored the area by the bar.
There has been a lot of negative press surrounding this game, from a 2/10 Eurogamer review and a Gamasutra opinion piece, both of which essentially said "this game should not exist". I think that's too harsh, personally, it's just the amount of ire this game has received is really interesting.
I don't regret backing this on Kickstarter, because I knew exactly what I was getting into - a gussied up remake of a very old, very dated game - and I got exactly what I paid for. Ultimately I think the game itself is beyond saving, as far as improving it. It's just a bunch of bandages, and fixing it would've required a whole new game, which they made clear that they couldn't do due to issues with the licensor.

I think the biggest problem was charging 20 dollars for it. For that price you could get all the Larry games on GOG (or most of them at least). There's lot of great newer adventure games on both GOG and Steam that cost way less than that (Or are about that price, like Walking Dead) and they're not remakes of a 26 year old game.

Yep, this is why I haven't picked it up. Also, something about realizing there are games that are 26 years and even older is somehow very, very strange to me.

That's awesome. They even added graphics! Will definitely need to track this down. Maybe I'll drop Al Lowe a line about it!
