hg101.classicgaming.gamespy.com/aliensyndrome/aliensyndrome.htmYet more Sega love. Alien Syndrome is another one of those "classics" that hasn't exactly aged well, although it's certainly more playable than Altered Beast. I grew up playing the SMS version, which is vastly different from the arcade version and frustrated the hell out of me. It still does - I can't beat the third level without save states.

Hey, I can't even get past the first freaking level. But it's still a fine game nonetheless, and MAJOR points for having the boss screenshots! ;D

You seem to be lacking a full version of the totally rad NES cover so I'll scan mine. Here: img404.imageshack.us/img404/9471/aliensyndromenesrk3.jpgAlso, I don't know if it's worthy for the article but it's notable for Alien Syndrome fans that THQ put out and great Game Boy Color game called Aliens: Thanatos Encounter. It's basically an Alien Syndrome clone that's also an official Aliens game. You have a pool of marines with slightly different stats that you can choose to play as until they're all captured. You go around the (larger) Alien Syndrome type levels blasting aliens and rescuing colonists and other soldiers. It's interesting because each level has a lower floor accessed by vents/hatchways that are completely and totally taken over by the Aliens, but you have to go there to rescue some people if you want a perfect rating. Also you can rescue up to one of YOUR captured guys per level by going there. It's intense because once a guy is captured a timer starts ticking down until they're implanted. You have a few different weapons you can select, but if you stick with one handed weapons you can equip the motion sensor in your other hand which makes finding people/blasting aliens easier. Pretty fun diversion.

A couple typos I noticed, "an enemies" and "it'I'll".

The european version of SEGA Classics Collection on ps2 had no version of alien symdrone on it and nothing was put in to replace it thanks sega of europe I wanted to play that one as well. Any way years ago I made a sprite page on the arcade version of the game yes its full of spelling errors and its on geocitys as well. www.geocities.com/acidonia2003/Aliensyndrome.html

Thanks for the corrections, I've added the NES cover and the bit about Alien Syndrome being left off the European PS2 collection. I remember hearing something to that extent but never verified it. Maybe because it was too violent?

Wasn't there like, a horribly bad sidescroller for the NES kind of like this but with two screens?

Finally! And what a fun game this is... I grew up with the C64 version, which has an irritating flaw: the scrolling speed is slower than the player speed,so you were forced to stay on the borders on the screen...

Maybe because it was too violent? I doubt it would of been too violent I mean splatter action (called splatter master here) got only rated 12+ in europe and so do quite a few American M rated games here as well. And on Sega classics collection in europe it was rated 12+ any way due to Golden Axe. Nearly every fighting game here gets rated 12+ if you fight human like foes if theres any blood or not even if its somthing like digimon even one of the GBA Power Ranger games is rated 12+ here

No mention of the X68000 version? None? Edit: Okay, I found the sole reference...in passing... Feel free to ask me about these things...if a game was ported to the X68000, there's a fair chance I've got it. I have Alien Syndrome (although the box might not be in great shape, it should still make a decent enough cover scan). And on Sega classics collection in europe it was rated 12+ any way due to Golden Axe. Anyhow, Alien Syndrome...eh, I didn't care for the arcade version. I'm going to try out the SMS version though (and play the arcade one some more in MAME just to see if I feel differently now). p.s. Out Zone whips this series' ass.

Not a bad game really, you're racing against a clock to rescue as many hostages as possible, meanwhile the music playing in the background sets the mood perfectly, and some of the speech I find funny, like the monotone "Go to the exit" (I can't explain why I find that bit funny at all).

Which are mostly on games like gta and metal gear games and im 22. And snk's Search and Rescue is far more a rip off of aliens that Alien Syndrome and the robot from Alien Storm also apears in a japanese only arcade quiz game which has nothing to do with Alien Storm.
