It's a chinese only release and just like with the Ys SEVEN one probs a somewhat glitchy port of the Vita one.

Regarding Ys 5 Expert, in what ways is it more difficult?
I kinda feel like trying it now that I'm pretty far into the original, but sadly the translation patch doesn't seem to work with it and I don't feel like playing a hard mode with just increased hp and damage for enemies.

From the JP Wikipedia page (I should go over my article and add some of this in): ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%82%A4%E3%83%BC%E3%82%B9V#.E3.82.A4.E3.83.BC.E3.82.B9V.E3.82.A8.E3.82.AD.E3.82.B9.E3.83.91.E3.83.BC.E3.83.88Game balance tweaks: Increased enemy stats and changed their behavior to make the game more difficult Additional monsters, including some unused ones were added, along with color palette changes to differentiate stronger enemy types The Foresta map is expanded and a hidden dungeon added. Time attack mode added And assorted bug fixes

Hi guys, just wanted to add this info regarding the Pal version of Ys VI on Ps2:
"The anime opening found in the PC version can also be activated with a cheat code, but only in the North American and Japanese release. These cheat codes were disabled for the European release"
You can activate it on the Pal version, and many other cheats (not all), they changed the cheat codes for the Pal version. The Master code to unlock the cheats changed to the following (you'll understand how to input them if you play the game): Y B R Y B R . After that you can use the other cheat codes, for example the Anime intro is: R B R . The full cheats can be found in the lunarthreads site.

I'd like to know how well these PC ports run. While the turn based Falcom RPGs are no big deal for most computers after 2007, the more action-rpg stuff has been hit and miss from XSeed. Xanadu Next surprisingly had some performance issues
That said, I won't be able to play these until I get a new PC or better graphics card. I can't run the HD stuff on mine.

Could someone describe the use of these Ys IV (PCE CD) items?
Ruby, Necklace, Sacred Cup, Topaz - I assume just for money? But the SNES game lets you attach them to weapons Yolm Root Batu Ash Hihof Leaf Rehva Hide Fresh Fruit

And Ys Seven runs beautifully -- smooth, consistent 60fps performance on pretty much any machine. -Tom

But the SNES game lets you attach them to weapons Yolm Root Batu Ash Hihof Leaf Rehva Hide Fresh Fruit The ruby, necklace, cup and topaz are for money, you can sell them at Minea. The Fresh Fruit increases your level by one, like Pokémon's Rare Candy. The other items are used to mix potions. I found a list of all combinations with names here. Huh, I didn't know the bird gave you some of them randomly.

Thanks It's a little odd how long it takes until you get to know what the ingredients are for but I suppose it could've been in the manual.

Now that I'm here... recently it was brought to my attention that Ys I Eternal has a developers' room, not unlike Ys IV (TCD), as evinced in this video: The video's description has more info (quoted below), though the uploader doesn't speak Japanese, so it's mainly what they could gather. You can see some special artwork, answer a few quizzes, and interact with the dev NPCs. Video description (for posterity): [Korzic]
First off, a huge thanks to Nunuu for her guide which mentions how to get to this place, as I very likely wouldn't have known about this otherwise. Do note that this reward is exclusive to the Eternal version, and completely inaccessible in the Complete and Chronicles versions. Nunuu mentions that Adol "kind of" has dialogue at certain points during this, so the blue boxes you see are probably his (aside from the quiz, probably), but I don't understand Japanese, so I've absolutely no idea what's going on. =p
Anyway, you can get to Alen Smithy's Graveyard (don't ask me who that is =p) by beating the game and watching the credits all the way through, and then starting a new game (loading up an old file will not work). During this new game, make your way to the Minea Plains screen that has the pikkards (the screen south of the northwestern Roda Tree), and let them kill you. Now, instead of just loading up a file, press "Y", "S", and "Enter" together, and you will find yourself in a strange area, with all of your equipment and items taken away. Follow the creature (it's probably a Roo from Ys II) to the right, and you may see it enter a computer monitor in the top right, but no matter what you do, you won't be fast enough to catch it. You should see another weird looking creature here, so talk to it and it will ask you a question. Choose the top answer, and it'll lead you to the developers' room. If you choose the bottom answer, a mob of Roos and humans (Falcom's staff, maybe? XD) will charge you, and the creature will give you another chance (get it wrong this time, and you'll be instantly killed, kind of like if you had the Evil Ring equipped without protection -- do not do the "Y", "S", and "Enter" combo if you die like this). Regarding the creature, Nunuu says it's Gau, a creature from Popful Mail, another Falcom game (which is apparently what the question is about).
Anyway, inside the developers' room, there are several interesting things you can do. Talk to the guy that looks like he's working out a couple times, and he'll return to his seat. After he sits down, talk to him again, and choose the top option to see a couple pictures of Elena from Ys III (use either the "Escape" or right mouse button to exit them). After seeing both of them, talk to the guy on the other side of the room, in the top right. He'll eventually say something about Ys III (I think), and then the guy that showed you the Elena pictures will subject you to a quiz (you need to get 8 right to exit it, otherwise it seems to go on forever - good luck =p). Also of note, the guy above the exercising one will eventually show you a picture of Feena, provided you've seen both Elena pictures. The guy above him also changes dialogue eventually after seeing the Elena pictures (but again, I've no clue at all what's going on here). Finally, if you talk to the sleeping guy on the ground 9 times, he'll get really pissed as you try to walk away, and do this really cool-looking combo that completely obliterates poor Adol.
You can talk to the other staff members if you like, but that's the most notable stuff you can do here, to my knowledge. Aside from getting killed by the guy sleeping on the ground, the only other way to leave is to load up a previous file. If you wish to come back, you can now do so any time you receive a game over, though it's not recommended to do so when getting killed by the Evil Ring's curse (Nunuu notes that you can, however, fall into the void during the Dark Fact battle, and doing the "Y", "S", and "Enter" combo there will show a "ghostly" Adol in the graveyard XD -- it's only a visual effect, however).
