Wow, this looks almost exactly like Every Extend Extra. Although I bet it plays much differently.

It plays a bit like Tempest X, although not as cool on a gameplay level. But the visuals are oustanding, I think it's one of the few PS games to use a higher resolution all the time.

I saw this for sale once and nearly bought it.
It looks stunning for a PS1 title.

Just thought I'd mention, this doesn't appear to work on a backwards-compatible (software) Japanese PS3. At least, it doesn't work on *my* backwards-compatible (software) Japanese PS3. So far, it's the only PS1 game that I own that doesn't. Which is a bit annoying, really.
<edit> Yeah, just tested the disc out in EPSXE and it works fine in emulation, so it's clearly the PS3 that doesn't like it - gives me the Squaresoft and positron logos, then whatever the b&w warning message is, but refuses to load any further.
